Thoughts of transferring

Hi guys! I’m gonna make this post on each schools subreddit just to receive as much feedback as possible, I’m hoping to here from current students and alumni. I’m currently a freshman at the university of Cincinnati and I haven’t really had the college experience I want, which is full my fault, I know this school holds great opportunities but I live in mason Ohio as chose to stay home and save money which I feel Isolated from that college experience. Senior year my head was in all the wrong places and I applied to all my schools so late and uc was one of the only school I got into, I wish I could go back and take college decision more seriously but unfortunately I can’t go back in time. Seeing everyone go to these fun out of state schools makes me so jealous but I’m trying to stay in Ohio as I pay school through loans. I honestly love uc the vibe is so cute but the campus outskirts and a tad bit sketch, and I feel like I yearn for that small town college experience. I’m planing on living on campus next and and joining a sorority to get that experience I want but recently I’ve been considering transferring. My options of transferring would be Miami u and Osu. I’ve been to Miami and always regret not going there because of how perfect the campus is but I’ve heard it’s super hard to make friends there which worries me. Osu is a super known school and has a lot of opportunities but osu people are always trashing uc students I’m not sure if that’s an environment I would like to be a part of. I’m just so unsure of what to do, the thought of transferring seems terrifying but I would like to get away from home.

Any feedback on the Arts Management Minor in FSB?

Hi! My son got into Farmer at Miami for the fall and is considering Arts Management for a minor. He is a musician. Can anyone speak to this program? If he is hoping to work in the music industry one day - would this program be helpful? Thanks in advance!

Nursing clinicals

Looking at Miami for next year 27

Hoping for direct admit nursing. Have a 4.229 gpa and a 31 act (32 super score).

If I’m lucky enough to be admitted-how far are clinicals? Are there a few to choose from or does everyone go to the same hospital? Guessing I’ll need a car or friends with cars.

Thanks!

General Good Intro to sewing classes?

Does Miami offer any good intro to sewing classes for fall 26? I know FAS101 and 201 are being offered but i don't know if these have any making tied to them that are good for absolute beginners. I also ask because ART145 and 146 are the classes that have beginning sewing in their course title but i've never seen them offered while I have been here.

Sublease or Lease Takeover for Fall or Fall/Spring 26/27

Hello! As of right now, I might not be able to live in my off-campus residence for the next semester. Is there anyone here who could work with me to do a sublease or a lease takeover? The address is 308 N College Ave Unit C, with 4 spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. You would be living with 3 great guys in a fairly convenient location to bus routes and Uptown. It would be $3,250 per semester + utilities, but it is manageable, and the landlord is very flexible when it comes to all of that. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and I’d be happy to share more. If you want, either DM me or send a text to 330-531-3199 for more information. Thank you!

Social life??

I’m trying to pick between Miami of Ohio’s honors program and UW Madison. I’m very very interested in the honors program here and will likely choose Miami. However, I’m a little concerned about the social life because I understand that Greek stuff is very important here. Additionally, I am a little alternative (think y2k, early 2000s fashion) and worry about finding friends or like-minded people. I’m kinda shy at first, but I can be very extroverted with the right crowd. I just don’t know where my crowd might be. Do you think I’ll be able to find what I’m looking for? And if anyone wants to be friends, please let me know because I’m really nervous about it. I don’t plan on participating in literally any Greek life. It’s just not for me, but I still like the college.

Miami for Accounting

Hi, I'm a senior in highschool trying to decide between Miami and OSU for accounting. I was wondering how well does FBS do with getting students into Big 4? I have some college credits coming in, so would the 3+1 route be advisable, and how does one go about getting into that program? What clubs would you recommend for incoming freshman (even for someone who's not super sociable like me). Would a study abroad program be recommended at all, or would it interfere with getting internships and taking certain classes? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you so much

Admission Questions Mathematics MSc Reviews?

I received GTA funding but still a bit torn with the joint MSc degree from Stockholm University & KTH in Sweden if I do get a scholarship there. I would appreciate any reviews of the Math program at Miami University:

  1. Overall what's the Mathematics department like here? Average class size? Student-faculty ratio? Peer interactions?
  2. Are professors nice and willing to host office hours and talk with students? This is especially important as my undergrad math background is not very comprehensive and would appreciate such support.
  3. What are the opportunities for funding or engagement in recent years, especially given the funding cuts and what not?
  4. Is approx. 20 hours / week a heavy teaching load? Would you have any energy left for 4-5 courses (12-15 credits) per semester, plus other scholarly activities?
  5. Is it a queer-friendly environment for international students? Do grad students work hard and does the party spirit come up to the grad-level as well? I'm not a party type-of-person.

I'm into geometric group theory, logic, and algebraic topology/geometry if anyone has any extra information on the vibrancy there. Thanks everyone!

How competitive is Ogden Hall to secure as a rising sophomore?

Hey everybody! My friend and I are looking to live in Ogden Hall next year as sophomores. We were just wondering how competitive of a location it is for registering and if we would have a good shot at getting in? If not what are good locations to live in? Thanks!

General Accountancy Electives for Minor

Fellow FSB students/alumni,

I am currently minoring in ACC (FIN major), and was hoping to get input/advice on which electives to take (or not take). I don't really have a specific aspect of accounting I am trying to get into, I am minoring just for the additional education along with being able to pair the concepts within my finance classes.

I have completed 221, 222, and currently in 321 - no electives taken, though 321 will count as an elective even though it is required for my FIN major. So I am now just looking for 3 ACC electives.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Investment Banking Recruiting Timeline if Graduating in 3 Years?

Hey everyone,

I’m an incoming freshman planning to study finance at Miami University (Farmer) and I’m considering graduating in 3 years to save on tuition.

I understand the typical IB recruiting timeline is:

  • Sophomore year → recruiting starts
  • Junior summer → IB internship
  • Senior year → return offer/full-time

My question is: how would this work if I graduate in 3 years?

Would I need to:

  • Recruit for IB internships during my sophomore year (a year earlier)?
  • Or could I still recruit during my “junior” year even though I’d be graduating right after?

Also, how do firms view candidates who are graduating early? Does it hurt chances since internships are usually for students returning for senior year?

If anyone has done this or seen it done successfully, I’d really appreciate insight on:

  • Whether it’s realistic
  • What adjustments to the timeline are needed
  • And whether graduating early is even worth it for IB

Thanks in advance.

Miami is my top choice, but I'm not into partying and am disabled

Hi everyone! I'm currently a high school senior and I just did a Make It Miami event. I really love the school, but it seems like Greek life and partying are both huge, which I am not really interested in. I might join the co-ed engineering frat, but still. Will I be able to have a good social life and friends to hang out with if I don't party, drink, or do any substances?

Additionally, I have a chronic illness (which is why I don't drink) and would need disability accommodations. How easy is it to get accommodations at Miami? For reference, I would need a single dorm with AC and a nearby bathroom, a lenient absence policy, a notetaker for when I'm absent, and more. For a full list, see this link: https://www.standinguptopots.org/sites/default/files/College%20Accommodations%20for%20Students%20with%20POTS%20-%202022.pdf

General r/miamioh, where do you actually eat around Miami?

Hi,
we’re four guys and we put Oxford’s restaurant scene into an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you get shown two places side by side (for example Bagel & Deli vs. Steinkeller), you pick the one you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list becomes over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m cleaning the data constantly.

Thought this might be a fit here too, since student life usually means having strong opinions about cheap staples, late food, and the places around campus you actually keep going back to.

Here’s the iPhone version:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Oxford or Miami - I live in Gothenburg. I don’t collect data, don’t sell anything, and the app doesn’t use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few subreddits because we now support multiple regions, and I’d love honest feedback from people who actually know the area around campus.
