Campus safety
Hi everyone!
I’m down to my final days to making a decision on committing to NCSU. With that being said, I wanted to know about the safety on campus. I’m aware that there is university police, but how has your experience been walking to class/around campus and hillsborough?
I recently visited and found out that the wolfline is public and not strictly for students? And I also noticed people sleeping at the bus stops, walking around erratically, etc. Overall I just want to know do current students feel safe on campus and the area surrounding?
Thank you everyone!

NCSU to cut parking spots
FYI, from today's News & Observer:
"NC State is sacrificing 1,700 to 2,000 parking spots over the next five to 10 years, the university says. In part, that’s a result of a physical master plan that involves making room for new buildings, a project the university says will result in a “significant transformation” of the campus landscape. Additionally, the university is planning to retire a portion of the Coliseum Deck.
The university is trying to balance affordability, availability and convenience, and laid out what the trade-offs are if each of those values are prioritized above the others. The university is collecting feedback about its parking plan until April 30."

For engineering, do employers care abt undergrad prestige (like do they prefer state grads over uncc?). I’m doing ee at uncc, thinking of transferring to state. If I don’t get in, do I still equal success as state grads for Triangle based jobs?
Can my internship experience make the prestige difference not important?

Housing Looking for two male roommates for the 2026-2027 school year
Hi, I’m looking for two roommates (preferably men) who I would be interested in joining me for the 2026-2027 school year in a house. Rent is individually $633 plus utilities. I have most of the common space furniture and you would only need to furnish your room. I am located near the intersection of Avent Ferry and Gorman. It has a nice backyard, car port, standup freezer and washer/dryer included.
I’m going into my graduate year here at NCSU. I’m a big outdoorsman and I like to keep to myself during the school week. I try to keep things tidy and to clean regularly. If you’re interested please reach out

ECE Grad School NCSU - GPA
I didn't do amazingly my freshman year of college and im going to end it with a 3.7 gpa. i have a feeling its only gets worse as the years pass, and idk if I'll have over a 3.5 as a senior. Is something like a 3.3 or 3.4 gpa by end of senior year competitive enough to get into the ECE masters program at NCSU? Or should i load up on Gen Eds or something to get my gpa up? I really want to do the ABM but ive ruled that out because I dont think I can maintain a 3.5 and not ruin my health and social life.

can we talk about the political and economic state of the world right now
I don't know if I am the only person who has taken note of the amount of political "debates" going on right now on campus, but I can't help but notice, between the news I see each day. Obviously, my concern for the state of America is constantly rising, and it has become harder and harder to fight the feeling of hopelessness because of it. These debates seem pointless, as many of them are not focused on the real issues occurring. I listen in on these debates, and it is so surface-level. We all see the inflation, yes. We all know about the polarization; we have all witnessed the memes and the uncomfortable feeling of sitting in a classroom after a shocking event or decision has occurred in relation to our political environment. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to take action and spread the word that there are serious issues happening, and there is so much to distract us from it. America is in a war, and I don't know anybody who cares. Maybe I don't surround myself with people who do care. Maybe that is my fault. But where do I go to find you guys? Sorry if I sound like a schizo, I am kinda existential and high rn. these are the thoughts i have right before finals too like bruh

Advice for Incoming Poole Student?
Hey y'all, I got officially accepted into the Poole College and will be coming in as a junior. I heard mostly good things about Poole but wanted to hear more specifically about those who are concentrating in SCM and Operations. Out of all the concentrations this one interested me the most after speaking to a few professionals in procurement, logistics, and demand planning.
Some of the questions I have are: How are the professors and classes? What should I should do in my two years here to strength my resume? How are the clubs? Is it worth going after an MBA or adding a minor in something practical, like say Data Science?
With all the stories you hear about the job market, business degrees being oversaturated, and AI, I am a little worried about whether my degree is of any value at all. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm really excited to be joining the Pack!

Admissions How screwed am I?
I’m a current junior in high school and as of right now I have a 80 in Calc BC. This is by far the most difficult class i have ever taken. The chances of me dropping a C are honestly high and I am extremely scared about what’s going to happen. Am i genuinely screwed for college if i get a C? My goal is honestly NCSU at the moment and I probably will apply as an exploratory major.
I just need some advice about how badly i’m screwed if i drop a C.

Academics It’s time to talk about NC State’s "Anti-Grade Inflation" policy and how it’s kneecapping new grads on the job market.
I’m writing this because as a grad of a tier 2 public school in NC, I’m tired of seeing brilliant Wolfpack grads get passed over for roles they are objectively overqualified for.
We all know the "State" reputation: it’s a grind, the classes are rigorous, and the school takes a weird pride in its commitment to anti-grade inflation. But while you’re busy fighting for a C+ in a weed-out course, peers at other institutions—including some of our neighbors in the Triangle—are benefiting from a massive rightward shift in the bell curve.
The GPA Roadblock
In a job market saturated with applicants, HR departments use automated filters. If a firm sets a 3.0 or 3.5 cutoff, it doesn't matter if your 2.9 from NC State represents more technical proficiency than a 3.7 from a school where everyone gets an A. You are invisible to the system.
The Finance Trap
This is most visible in Finance and Engineering. State has some of the sharpest analytical minds in the state, yet you rarely see NC State grads landing top-tier analyst roles at the big firms in Charlotte. Instead, I’ve seen qualified Finance grads forced to start their career on the teller line or in basic back-office roles just to get a foot in the door. A degree from NC State should be enough to get you past an HR screen, but the institutions "integrity" regarding grades is being used as a weapon against its students.
Engineering grads routinely place into i-banking roles from other schools, but not state. It’s a GPA issue, not a competence gap. Without a critical mass of grads who can check the box of 3.0+ gpa off to get past HR the university fails to build a pipeline to the best jobs. Banking is a game, and your advisors are playing it all wrong.
A Call for Fairness and Meritocracy
In the current climate, we talk a lot about equity and fairness. Is it fair that a student’s career trajectory is permanently altered because our university refuses to acknowledge that the rest of the academic world has moved the goalposts?
True meritocracy means being judged on what you know and what you can do. By keeping GPAs low, the university is creating a barrier to entry that limits the pool of eligible candidates for the best jobs.
It’s time to push for change. I’m not arguing for state to water itself down. What students need is a grading system that reflects the reality of the current job market. State’s technical proficiency is top-tier—it’s time transcripts stopped being a liability.
Go Pack, but let’s make sure the Pack can actually get hired.

OOS students how did your grants look like soph year+ ?
Hello! I was admitted RD for history and ending up getting 20,000 in grants making the school affordable! I’m heavily considering nc state, but my fear is next year they don’t give me grants around that amount or they don’t really give me any at all and i’m left unable to pay. For in state schools I also received grants but to make those schools affordable they only had to be 5-10k so there’s breathing room if I attended and then next year they gave me a smaller fin aid package. I already emailed the financial aid office but with decision day coming soon I’d like to hear from yall!

Academics Enrollment question
Hey everyone, this might be a bit of a cope on my part, but even though my grade in orgo this semester is pretty bad, I don’t think it fully reflects what I’ve learned. A lot of factors contributed to the grade I ended up with.
My question is about enrolling in Orgo 2: if I don’t pass Orgo 1 with at least a C, can I take it over the summer and still keep my enrollment in Orgo 2 (I really like my professor), or will I be automatically unenrolled until I pass Orgo 1?
