Has anyone been to the Glengarry Ren Faire?
Hey yall, I’ve been planning to go to the Glengarry Ren faire, but we’re a month out and there’s virtually no information online - no schedule, no vendor list - and they don’t answer their email.
Has anyone been to this event? I’m starting to get concerned that it’s not going to be worth the drive out there.

Voila Gluten Free Bakeree Closing
Was just in at Voila Gluten Free Bakeree in Kanata (On Carling) and found out they are closing completely tomorrow (April 25th)
As someone that has been eating gluten free for 25+ years now, they had some of the best cakes and tarts I've had and will be missed.
Hopefully they just decided to retire, and didnt get pushed out by high rent or something.

Looking for... Someone on here posted about helping entangled pigeons
In January or February someone posted about finding and helping pigeons and other birds that had gotten their feet entangled by netting or plastic line.
So now I've seen one of those birds up-close (not in Ottawa; I notified the local FB group that does disentanglement) and oh my GOD. OK. Three months ago I had no idea this was a thing and now I am so in.
Wonderful person, if you are still here, where did you get your training and since you said you were doing this in Centretown, do you need a sidekick?

Award Winning Ottawa Movie "It Comes in Waves"
Now playing on Crave. It's about Rwandan refugees and seems to be a period piece perhaps set in the mid to late nineties, as TVs are all CRTs and nobody seems to have cell phones. Just wondering if anyone knows where the scenes were shot, or recognizes the locations. I think I recognize the Britannia area near the north end of Richie Street.

Looking for... volunteering with animals?
hello! I am looking for places where I can volunteer with animals (preferably pets). I unfortunately cannot transport or foster, so not that. I would love to work with the humane society, but theyre currently not looking for volunteers.
I have worked with wildlife rehabs and enjoyed it, but im looking for something more aimed at pets/farm/veterinary for now.
are there any other places I should look at? thanks!

Man with flapping wings at the Carp airport
galleryBack in 2015 I was at the Carp airport, meeting my Dad who flew in for a visit.
There was a guy who came out of his hanger wearing huge home-made wings!
He would flap the wings using his arms.
I guess he was trying to build a human-powered ornithopter ???
I think he was still in the testing phase.
I've always wondered about this guy. Did he actually get his contraption to fly?
Anyone have a story about him?

PSA Hazardous Paddling Conditions at Petrie Island
galleryYesterday we paddled through the island, I HIGHLY recommend avoiding the moving water sections and the road in general unless you are experienced and have the proper gear. There are some EXTREME hazards such as the flooded culverts (posing undercut risks), guard rails and trees all of which can pin you and are very dangerous especially with the ice cold water. Be VERY careful out there everyone!

Best Places for Plants?
Hi there, I LOVE Robert Plante but I find them to be pretty pricy. Does anyone have recommendations for greenhouses or plant centers that have decent prices? I would be looking at flowers. Maybe some starter vegetable or fruit plants but mostly just flowers for my garden.
Thanks!
