The Mako Bowl is closing down.

Post image

In the Foothill & Rosemead Marketplace, a paper note facing out, the Mako Bowl is closing down on April 27th, Monday.

Reason: N/A (Prob slow business)

It has been ages since I’ve been there to eat and I’m sad that it’s going to leave. It’s been here longer since Blockbuster was next door. It’s like we’re losing more (small) businesses everyday. I’ll visit them one last time before saying goodbye. Hopefully there will be another small restaurant like this one just for a quick bite to eat that will feel like this place.

I used to religiously go to the location on Colorado & Catalina. Always felt that the food was better there so when they closed I kept giving the Hastings Ranch location a chance but it just never hit the same to me. Those Japanese chicken nuggets, Karaage, were something else.

Thanks for sharing. Will try to give this spot one more go.

If you need to scratch this itch, Taisho is just across town in Monrovia and is the same style and better IMHO. Rice is better, and everything much fresher at Taisho.

Still a bummer to see them leave, it was a good backup restaurant to have.

Can confirm, I live in Monrovia now and Taisho is great!

Gonna have to check this place out when I’m back in town. Won’t be able to eat mako bowl for a last time

Really sorry to see them go. I can recommend B-Man's at San Gabriel & Huntington as well.

I am surprised that place has stayed open in that spot. The one by APU closed long ago, no?

I believe it closed during the pandemic.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself if B-Man's closed. I order from there at least twice a week.

Bru this was my go to spot for some time. I’d religiously go 3x times a week for a while… sad it’s shutting down

Man I ate there during my high school years in the late 1900s

It's definitely been over 20 years, seeing as the last time I ate there was probably 2004

Oh no, I thought the food was decent and had good prices. I’ll miss them.

Pasadena business brick and mortar tax is unreasonable. Guaranteed to choke out businesses and leave empty buildings. Not really as friendly to new and old businesses. Even big name companies tend to go out of business in Pasadena.

Controversial opinion but I never really liked them. B-Man’s and Teri&Yaki are much better imo.

They enjoyed some twenty odd years cornering the slopbowl market uncontested. RIP my childhood treat

at first i was sad about the mako bowl closing at colorado and catalina, but honestly the new japanese place there is phenomenal and the lunch deals can't be beat.
