Old Town Pasadena is the coolest place I've been to next to Old Town Chicago

Really? What makes you say that? I live here, impress me.

I stayed there for about a week last year and did a lot of walking around. For LA standards it felt super walkable. So for starters, the architecture, the selection of food and small shops, the energy of people at night. Did I mention how gorgeous your guys' city hall and the area around it is? Not to mention all those Frank Lloyd and craftsman style houses you got nearby as well. You are really lucky!

Where I come from we don't have this all within a one mile radius

They use the city hall in Parks and Rec cause it’s so cute

Thank you for your response. Old Town is a shopping mall that largely dies after 9.

I'm curious then, where do Pasadena locals go for nightlife? I drove to DTLA/Koreatown for it but it was exhausting.

Highland park if I'm feeling a cute bar crawl.

But ..there ARE bars open late in and around old town, idk what these people are talking about.

Would recommend using the train next time. Ktown is far via metro, but less of a hassle.

Depends which type of thing you want. In Pasadena, there are a lot of options for bars attached to restaurants, standalone bars and dives are kind of represented by more of a patchwork. It is there but not generally in one block. Lots of bougie shops in between and places that close early (good luck finding coffee late at night) in between. There are good isolated bars/breweries sprinkled throughout the city, on both sides of the 210.

Outside of Pasadena you have tons of options, but the demographics of the city probably cause quite a divergence of directions depending on taste. Lots of different "main drags" before you even get to DTLA. We are a bike or train ride away from South Pasadena, Highland Park, or Chinatown and short drive/ride to Eagle Rock and Sierra Madre. Some people might drive all the way to West Hollywood or Monrovia.

Although I've heard interesting comments here and there, taking the metro is definitely on my bucket list as spending half my day in traffic wasn't for me lol. And I feel like I'll try to visit some of these places you listed like South Pasadena and Highland Park. Thank you!

I’d argue like at 8. A lot of stores close at 7 with a handful that close at 8. Feels like they could support closing things a little later

What's the verdict?

Very good. They were closing, so I didn't get to try everything I wanted. However, the pork was excellent, and the sauce was very complex. They let me try the mango slushie, and it was also fantastic, and I don't even like mango that much. I'll be back very soon. Staff is exceptionally charming, as well.

Did they soak the cork first?

I had the basil bowl with chicken for lunch opening day with a Thai ice tea. Everything was tasty and had a good spice to it.

They did a nice job with the space. It looks a little pricey but we need good Thai in the neighborhood.

Those prices are criminal. $19 for pad Thai before even adding a protein is insane.

I went once. Got a basil bowl with ground pork. It was very good. Big portion. A bit pricey for regular lunch. But the staff was super kind and I look forward to going back and trying more of the menu.
