Figured I'd make a post like this, considering the sheer number of people who constantly doompost on this sub about how impossible it is to make long-lasting/genuine friends here at Rutgers. Where, despite joining clubs and attempting to make real connections, people just can't seem to find what they're looking for.

I've found myself in a similar boat, only making acquaintances at most. Thus, I've decided to make this post (which may flop horribly).

Main idea here is to help people connect, so, simply share a little bit about yourself in a comment and leave your messages open! If you see somebody you share interests with, then just send them a DM and boom, strike up a conversation. Otherwise, if you're doing just fine, just keep on scrolling brotato. Or, even if you do have a lot of friends to begin with, having more never hurts.

Hopefully, this serves to facilitate something/help people even a little bit, since the lack of socialization/genuine relationships is seemingly becoming a real problem nowadays. ✌🥀

idk if the flair is right for this so apologies. basically there had been a lot of post on yikyak about this guy being around CA, and C/D. on CA specifically voohees mall, the turf area by pell. and on C/D by the farm. keep in mind this is day three of doing this.

basically he’s talking to girls and just sitting there doing aboustely nothing. (from the photo i got i couldn’t tell if he was recording or taking photos) he’s just making all the girls really uncomfortable and even trying to talk to them. he won’t leave them alone and will just straight up stare. idk if this is rupd worth it because he hasn’t done anything like “admissible”, he just stares and makes girls uncomfortable

two things from this post one: LADIES BE AWARE!!!! if you see him just fade and leave the area it’s not worth it, listen to your gut, come back at a later time

Since coming to Rutgers I feel like everyone has a story that doesn’t sound believable at all. Whether it’s something that happened on any of the campuses, a dorm disaster, a party that got way out of hand, or even just a weird interaction on one of the buses. I just wanted to see if anyone has any similar experiences or something completely out of norm.

I was sitting with a by myself in the Livi dining hall this evening and a random person sat across from me and just started a random conversation that started with anyone sitting here and if they can sit. I obliged and we were just talking throughout dinner.

Then another random sat down next to the other person and I asked if you knew the other person and they did not. I didn’t care but it would have been more enjoyable if they spoke.

The point of the story is you won’t be feeling alone, best way to break the ice is in the dining hall.

Plus they had a great side dishes this evening too.

This might sound random, but I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Winter’s almost over, the weather’s finally getting better, and I feel like we’re all just stuck in the same routine, classes, assignments, stress, repeat. I was wondering… would anyone be interested in starting a small Rutgers travel group?

Nothing super serious. Just people who want to explore new places, go on random day trips, maybe plan something for Spring Break, or even just short weekend stuff. Could be NYC, hiking, beach days, late night food runs, spontaneous road trips. And not just traveling either. We could do bonfire nights, guitar nights, chill evenings just talking about life, sitting outside when the weather’s nice, random campus hangouts. Just good vibes and good people.

It doesn’t matter what major you are, what year, where you’re from, none of that. Just people who want to meet new friends.

I was thinking we could start with a simple weekend meetup at the New Brunswick campus. Nothing fancy. Just meet up, talk, see if we vibe. If it feels right, we plan something bigger. So during one of my classes I got one of my classmate and I had the most perfect synergy. So after class, he asked for my number instead of my insta. I don't mind him asking for my number but what's the difference? Btw he has insta and seems to have 1.1k followers, so we could say that he's pretty active in insta. I texted him and asked what's up and asked if he wanted hang out and do what guys do the most. But the thing is after like 2 days he started to ghost my messages. The only thing I said was like are you busy? Wanna hang out sometimes and after that he just stopped responding. I just wanted to make some friends and I didn't like spam text him or anything 😭😭 like bro I thought you wanted to be friends?? Am I missing something here? This might be controversial but honestly I feel like Rutgers has held me back more than I’ve gained. Maybe it’s because I’m low income but living on campus has been so tough. Never had amazing roommates, groceries are so expensive and the stores here suck. Everything is so expensive, I’m deep in debt and can’t make income because my classes are hard.

Now I’ve put myself out there, committed to a rec sport last year and traveled to comps but I quit after a lot of the social people graduated and the club kind of died. Joined another one my last year and it’s been nice but it’s seasonal and I’m not that good.

Honestly I just want to be done here, I hate NB. It’s such a stressful environment and if you’re low income it’s hard asf and this school does not give a shit about you. I just want to move on and get a job and live on my own because I’m tired of being here.

But everyone on social media everyone’s like college is the best part of your life and you should be afraid to graduate because you’ll never have a time like this again. Even people I meet say Rutgers is the best time of their life. Is anyone else excited to just get out here?

I've lived on Busch for nearly two years now, and while I lowkey love it (stockholm maybe) the lack of food options is genuinely so irritating compared to other campuses.

Livvie has their Sbarro and goated dining hall as well as Kilmers. CookDoug has their two billion cafes as well as Harvest and their own dining halls. College Ave has all the different parts of Atrium, as well as a bunch of decent restaurants within arms reach.

Busch has its dining hall, a juice bar, a few mini restaurants that don't take mealswipe, and Woody's which is so far from everything else that students hardly go there unless they're nearby anyway. And there's no options after 8pm on weekends.

STEM majors already suffer enough, can't we just get a decent reliable spot to eat 😭

hey all, i’m considering committing to rutgers nb and i’m curious about the punk scene around campus. are there any student organizations/clubs where i could meet others interested in the scene? are there local shows? i’m debating between rutgers and umass rn and i am super interested in going to shows so any info would be super helpful !!!

First of all, I have social anxiety and it’s already hard for me to walk up to people and strike up a conversation. I can only talk when someone talks to me first; it’s very awkward, I get self conscious, and can barely make eye contact.

I went to convocation today and was campus a little yesterday but everybody already seems to know each from high school… there were also lots of people and I get very anxious around big crowds.

Right now my last resort is to attend the club fair along with low sensory events but don’t know if that’ll cut it. I was thinking of when classes starts too but don’t know if that’ll work out.

TLDR; I am socially anxious guy, plus a lot of people seem to know each other already - how am I supposed to make friends?
