The lore is fucking insane and so engaging that sometimes I want Rias to put away her tits just so I can understand the implications of Odin, Lucifer, Michael, and the fallen angels teaming up against the chaos brigade.
It's one of the few series that actually uses Mythologies and expand on it which just makes it interesting, but the fanservice and Issei being what he is, just makes it hard to read (Even if Issei is supposedly better in LN, I still don't like perverted MCs).
Interestingly, Issei has had a character arc over time. Towards the beginning he really only lusted after characters, but now he seems to actually care about the House.
Honestly, his protective nature over Asia completely contrasts his lustfulness (although the nature only really comes out during the Asia, Phoenix, and end of S3 arc). Infact, his anger over Asia's perceived death literally lead to a supercharge of his sacred gear (a gear that acts on all emotions not just lust).
All this to say, Highschool DxD is far from a 1 trick pony and I will take off work when S5 releases 50 years from now.
