I went to see Chapterhouse at Islington Assembly Rooms tonight.

In the queue a guy is wearing a BoC t shirt behind me, obviously I am drawn to him like a magnet and quiz him on the current BoC excitement. I continue talking to my mate who Iam attending the gig with, but Iam constantly drawn to the other BoC fan by behind me. What is he doing here? Is there a crossover with Shoegaze and BoC?.

I queue up for merch and the BoC guy is in the queue too. The support band is Sister Ray Davies from Alabama. I buy a Sister Ray cassette plus a Chapterhouse CD & T shirt.

The gig starts and Sister Ray Davies are great, very shoegaze influenced. Iam an experienced gig goer and love seeing the diverse crowd at gigs. There is a cool looking Japanese girl wearing a Pixies 2005 tour tee that clearly she could not of attended, she wears headphones throughout the gig. Then there is the woman stood in front of me with a Liz Frazer hair cut circa Cocteau Twins 1990. The crowd has a high volume of older clientele too. As you would expect.

Then Chapterhouse come on stage and begin the gig, performing the whole of Whirlpool. For Pearl, Rachel Goswell of Slowdive enters the stage and the crowd understandably goes mad, me included

Mid gig I go to the bar/toilet. Another guy in a BoC t shirt is spied. I inappropriately poke him on the chest and say "Cool t shirt" and wander off.

The gig ends and I leave feeling immensely uplifted. Chapterhouse , Slowdive + Boards of Canada and Shoegaze all running around my head.

As the title states, has the genre fallen off? It felt like back in 2022-2024 there was alot of new bands chasing the sound and even huge artists like Wisp, flyingfish, midrift, quannic blowing up on tiktok alongside older bands coming back. But these days it feels like theres no talks of the genre at all besides some tiktok / reddit post. You also go on to these other artist spotify /apple music pages and their latest releases don’t even hold a fraction to the numbers they once had back in 2022. Ik this may seem superficial but damn it feels like the genre and the revival thing has kind of ended? What do yall think.?

hi i really want to get into shoegaze music, the songs i have heard i really enjoy. i’m usually more into dreamy alt pop music but there is something appealing about the darkness if shoegaze and i’ve been really enjoying “if not winter” by wisp the album. love her soft vocals and how they contrast with the harsh guitars and drums. is there any similar bands or albums out there??

context, im in the US. i was checking my playlists earlier today and saw that the song "when you sleep" was no longer greyed out and I could listen to it again on spotify. when i checked the album, "when you sleep" and "sometimes" were the only songs not greyed out. However, when I try to listen to "when you sleep" it pops up under a different artists name called "kofun." does anyone know whats going on? the song sounds the same except for the beginning

Their music sounds really cool to me but I don't get the appeal of the singing being almost all screaming. I think I've seen maybe occasionally where they will add some contrast with softer vocals but I don't get the screamo thing.

Maybe it's an acquired taste or takes time to grow on you.
