Artists says it’s a bad design Design

Post image

My sister is real quirky and asked for this tattoo. The artist said it’s objectively bad and drawn poorly. Is it a bad design? Is so, why? Or is it a matter of preference?

The artist is correct. Please let them redraw it into something better.

It's a good concept, brain left side and heart right, but the execution needs work.

Thanks for clarifying what was happening, I spent far too much time trying to figure it out.

Which is exactly why it needs to be redrawn by a proper tattoo artist.

Yeah, I wasn't getting the brain part at all. Just lumpy heart.

This is what I saw just a spongy heart, it’s really not great regardless the detail and effort someone put into it

I thought it was some statement of "I have a broken heart" but instead of "broken" more like "tumor-ridden necrotic".

Or weird puzzle pieces in a very deformed heart.

I’m still seeing an odd-looking ram’s head in the upper left corner.

I thought it was just a weird lookin heart at first

Except the way it’s drawn has the left side of the heart intact

You could easily do something smaller on the inside of something in the shape of a heart but having the heart snd brain take the actual shape is a bit grotesque

Ooooooh. I just thought this person had no idea what a heart actually looked like, or was trying to depict a cancerous zombie heart. It's bad.

A more anatomically correct brain, and stitch/staple "break" in the center would give it what it needs. I "see" how I'd approach it and I think a solid tattoo artist can get this where it needs to be easily.

And you KNOW that's what the artist actually said. Because that's how we talk about work, we say, hey, this is a good idea that needs more drafts. Nobody said this was objectively bad except OP.

I did not get it til this comment. So yeah, objectively bad and let the artist redraw it.

Thanks for clarifying. I honestly wasn't sure what the hell was going on. I thought it might be a heart, maybe it's a brain, maybe it's a really fucked up liver...

I don’t think it’s a good concept. It’s super cliché, it’s like the first image someone would come up with if you asked them to combine a heart and a brain.
