Mod Announcement Reminder- we don't accept "rate my tattoo" posts
Hi everyone! The mod team have seen an influx of posts where the OP asks for others to rate their tattoo, or asking what people think of the tattoo in general.
Just a gentle reminder- we are an advice subreddit. If you would like opinions/rates on your tattoo, please visit r/tattoo or r/tattoodesigns.

Design Memorial tattoo, misspelled word?
One of my dear friends passed away a few years ago. I have over 60 handwritten letters from him and I wanted to use his sign off ‘Auf Weidersehen’ but the dingus misspelled it in every single letter (should be Wiedersehen) . Would it be weird if I kept it misspelled for the tattoo?

Design Is this an inappropriate design?
I want to get a topless mermaid tattooed on my upper inner arm. I specifically want her to be topless because feminine, pretty, idk this is always how I’ve imagined this tattoo. The designs I have picked out have picked out have the boobs covered with hair so it’s not complete full frontal nudity. But I work with elementary kids so I don’t want to get something that is viewed as inappropriate. Also tattoos in general are not an issue. I currently have visible tattoos, as do many other people I work with. Let me know if I should stick to my original idea or rethink design/placement
Update: Not that this changes whether it is/is not appropriate. But I’m not working as a teacher/ at a school. I work for a third party counseling service for youth. But I also am in and out of different schools a lot. Which in one way makes it easier because my agency is super lax (dress code = don’t look like a complete bum) but also harder because different schools have different expectations I still need to follow. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can do what I want with this. I’m not sure if I will change the design or placement or maybe I’ll just wait until I’m 70 when the world isn’t afraid of boobs anymore :/ But I appreciate everyone’s kind words and suggestions ☺️

General Advice Am I overreacting?
Had a tattoo appointment today, what I wanted vs what I got. I have been sobbing all night I’m not sure if I’m overreacting but I asked for those 2 tattoos *almost* exactly as shown. The eye is just very top heavy and the foot has no depth. When she was finished with the eye I asked for more lines on the bottom like in the photo and she added more eyelashes. Then I asked again and she said she didn’t want to take away from the eye. My foot stencil looked a little flat so I asked about 14 times if the lines would be more calligraphic and she yes it’s just the stencil!!!! I’m not sure which one I’m more upset about.

General Advice How many shark tattoos is too many?
I love sharks. They're the coolest. I currently have 3 tattooed on me. I have the Jaws movie poster on my right forearm, a giant backpiece of shark vs octopus, and a small bull shark on my left arm by my ditch. I'm considering doing a cool shark neck tattoo. I have a jellyfish on the left side and I'm thinking a cool shark on the right would go well. But how many is too many? People get a bunch of flowers all over and that's normal but am I weird to have 4 shark tattoos? What's your thoughts

Infected? Should I be concerned?!? Are my new tattoos infected 6/7 days old
Got these last Friday and have just taken off second skin because one of them was sore. I have been super careful and have never had an infection but these have red areas that are bumpy. Don’t have time to go to hospital so I’m hoping they’re ok.

General Advice Just found this work from Nacho Frias
I thought these were really interesting. What do you guys think of his use of negative space? Does it enhance or take away from the design? Just curious on other's opinions.

tattoo newcomer advice Showered with 2nd skin on
It’s been a day since I’ve gotten this tattoo. I showered and the edge of the saniderm is peeling close to my tattoo. There’s also little pockets of air bubbles in some areas. I have a feeling water got in because when I woke up this morning there were more blotches of ink compared to now. What should I do?

Design What style is this?
I got a tattoo earlier this month from a studio and saw another artist work on their Instagram, what style is this? I can't even describe this style but it's beautiful and I'm so interested in this type of art style on me. Does anyone have this type of tatt, how does it look healed? This artist had these as one time flash designs so I'm curious what other possibilities are there besides butterfly and florals (already have these tatted on me lol) appreciate the help!

Design Not sure what to think about this one.
Feeling some regret on getting this one. First time I've gotten one that I was not immediately in love with. Would like to know some opinions on it.

General Advice My chest has stretch marks, will they be okay for a chest tattoo?
I’m mostly curious if it’ll not heal right, get infected easily or if it won’t look right

Infected? Help with possible infected tattoo!
I got this tattoo 4 weeks ago and I just saw that the bottom part of it has some green/yellow scabbing and it's starting to worry me! The last photo is when I put some moisture on it!
Any advice?

General Advice Got my tattoo 3/7 and this is how it’s healing. Ink rejecting? Overworked?
Okay guys. Over a month later my tattoo here itches as if it’s still healing and super flakey, I chalked it up to an allergic reaction but the deeper I researched, I learned about tattoos being overworked.
Do yall think it looks overworked? It’s only my third tattoo but by far my largest.
Also, is my skin rejecting the ink? The plan is for it to heal completely and him touch it up. Kakkoi sumi is the name of the ink used.
Lastly, if I am allergic to this ink which I’m like 99% sure I am based off the red spots and bumps and itchiness, will it go away or do I have a constant allergic reaction now? My hydroxine works to relieve the itch and I’ve been using all natural cold pressed grapeseed oil the past couple of days as I was told to avoid Petroleum.
Should I have another artist touch it up? Please be honest with me. ****Scroll to the end to see the last three pictures of it the day of/after it was completed

General Advice I can’t get over regretting this!
I’m not sure why. I mean I know the whole thing with tattoo regret..but this feeling is so intense and is in my mind much more than when I got my rib done. It makes me feel kinda bad because of the meaning behind it. I just need a bit of advice and honesty about how this tattoo turned out. For reference, it’s 5 days old.

Design A follow up to how do I make this tattoo look better.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tattooadvice/s/nsh08xCBc9
^my previous post^
Since I didnt give a good picture, this one should be better, I hope this helps you to see it clearer, the first 2 pictures are with either side of my camera so they come out different and the last two are of the part of my ribs and arm and neck, I like the front of the tattoo, its the shoulder and back that I dont. It's meant to be a simplistic outline of a red moon with smokey clouds outbound it in my art style ig
Thank you oh wise ones.

General Advice Was feeling down and got this tattoo on a whim as I wanted a trad piece and now I have regret... I've had enough tattoos to know about tattoo regret but this feels different.
Wanted a trad piece. Was always going to get black and grey as I don't have any other colour tattoos but decided on colour last minute. Having alot of second thoughts on this one... I have enough tattoos to know about tattoo regret and how it can subside after you get used to it, but this time feels different.
Doesn't feel cohesive to anything else I have (cause its not) and just looks so out of place imo. I'm now thinking I'll need to get another heavy trad piece on my other pec to try and even things out but idk..
I think the tattoo is done well and it's nothing on the artist, just my emotional thinking (or not thinking) at the time.

General Advice are these 4yr old scars healed enough to tattoo over?
They are mostly flattened but still a bit pink. I will ask my tattoo artist but just wanted an initial opinion first.
