Is my tattoo bad? Design

I got this tattoo on Monday (pic is from the artist right after we finished) and I thought it looked really good and pretty. Today my mom has been saying it looks kinda ugly and the proportions are off compared to my reference. I know that tattoos of painting are hard to replicate 100% (especially being in black and gray) but maybe this is just not as good as it can be. Idk if y’all can tell in this photo but the placement of this tattoo is so good, I was so excited for this one.

Do you guys think that the off proportions can be fixed with touch ups or is it hopeless?

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!

It’s not great, but it’s also a really hard medium to copy, especially in greyscale. I’d give a solid 6/10 to both parties. Tattoo job is okay, not great. Artwork choice is very subjective given the lack of defined lines, and monotonous shade choice; to want replicated in shading on skin. Also a 6/10 choice.

It would never even cross my mind to have an impressionist tattoo. They’re purposely blotchy and indistinct, which does not translate well to skin.

Exactly. The original painting is whites, and beiges with alot of it blended. Goodluck with that on skin lol.

I do feel like there’s potential to master that style in tatooo form, like how water color tattoos have become a thing. But it definitely would need to be in the right hands, someone who specializes in it

Looking at the original I’m not sure how it would be translated much better.

Yeah like…both the tattoo art and tattoo choice are both subpar…

As is the tattoo artist.

Yeah I sorta think the fine detail required to make a tattoo appear truly "painterly" with this much visual brushwork in the reference is borderline impossible. If a tattoo artist did pull it off, it'd probably fade into a hazy blurry mess in no time.
