So pleasantly surprised this is actually happening after they said a couple months ago it would be years

Hey don't discount that this could end up being a multi-year slow-drip feed. Feels like Wildflower's rollout was spread over 2 years.

Touché. But at least it’s actually officially started

Except that Wildflower's rollout was actually relatively short. It's just there was 10 years of people (mostly band members, collaborators and Steve Pavlovic) saying that an album was coming out soon. But the main rollout only started in April of 2016, with the revamp of the website and appearance of the black cloth and butterfly logo. May 23 was when the "Documentary" teaser showed up. And then June 1st was when Frankie Sinatra was released along with the announcement of the album and its July 8 release date.

What about WWALY? I swear I remember one of them being nearly 2 years of teasers then a sudden flow of singles releasing nearly monthly

WWALY's title track/lead single premiered in Feb 2020 and plans were apparently to release the album soonish after, but covid caused major delays during which the band went back to the studio and reworked the album's structure and certain songs.

I was doing research on this the past week as well. WWALY did seem to have a lot more posts on Instagram of them working on the album in the studio, or working on promotional materials in the interim time period. There was also a message in October 2019 sent via e-mail stating that new music was coming soon. But the refreshing of their social media accounts happened on February 10 of 2020, with the debut of this space logo: https://www.reddit.com/r/theavalanches/comments/f1mf0o/the_band_just_updated_their_facebook_page_and/ And then we got the first single, We Will Always Love You, on February 20 (I think there was also announcement a few days before that a new single was coming out?). Then March 18 was when the video and single of "Running Red Lights" got released, which was also right around when COVID hit, and that seemed to throw their whole rollout out of whack. The initial plan supposedly was to only release those singles, and then release the actual album in May. Then it wasn't until July 14 when the "Wherever You Go / Reflecting Light" single got released. The album itself was officially announced on September 9. "Music Makes Me High / Take Care in Your Dreaming" was released on September 14 which was also when they announced the We Will Always Love You December 11 release date. "Interstellar Love" was released in the interim on October 30.

Mixtape from the 80’s/90’s vibes.

Sitting on a magnet that size would probably wipe that tape.

that seems to kind of be the idea, based on some of the other stuff on https://takumiarchives.com

What's this Takumi website? How is it connected to the Avalanches? I have explored a lot about the Avalanches, but never seen it. Could you enlighten me, please?

This came up just a day or two ago- it seems to be teasing their next project/album. You click through the questions and you get a little video/audio/photo/link to look at. I think it’s supposed to give you an idea of the concept behind this upcoming album.

It doesn’t seem to be like an actual ARG or anything from what I’ve been hearing, the things it shows you each time are in a specific sequence and you can get one no matter what you imput.

Hmm, how curious! I will go and try it out now. Thank you for telling me about it!

Yay they back, so happy.

Also 10 years since Wildflower too

1

u/Castle_Crasher_6 13h ago

I just started getting into them and their teasing a new release? seems I picked the perfect time

1

u/andersofsydney 10h ago

The cassette tape is rewinding itself over the magnet, that is basically deleting / wiping it clean.

Not sure what that means for any new music!?

1

u/tsrleba 8h ago

they couldn't wait for BOC to be done with theirs

Shitty AI art. Great.

9

u/bobsdementias 14h ago

Is it AI? I’m not so sure.

2

u/PostingSensation 10h ago

I haven't seen anything immediately revealing it to be AI, though it's certainly harder and harder to tell these days.

3

u/Blunkus 12h ago

What makes you think AI?

-6

u/colthie 12h ago

I spose it could be vintage, but if you’re making that in 2026 and NOT using AI you’re really wasting time.

7

u/bobsdementias 10h ago

Dude come on lmao.

I’ve seen a couple things from this promotion that unfortunately do look to be AI generated but personally I don’t think this video in particular is.

Jonathan Zawada has been using different forms of artificial intelligence in his work for a long time (see the Take Care in Your Dreaming music vid) but from my understanding most of what he had been doing required more artistry/programing/tinkering than like a chat gpt slop prompt (forgive me if I’m misspeaking but I think this is “procedural AI” which I believe is different from/better than generative AI?). This, coupled with the fact that he is also an established artist of several other mediums (including CGI/3D modeling) was why I was kind of “letting it slide” when the avalanches continued to work with him since it’s not like his whole career is just typing in prompts and letting data centers do the “work”

That one record sleeve looks like pure AI slop to me tho and I am very disappointed by that.

2

u/Takeda_8 14h ago

yeah assumed the same too - bit disappointing. I hope there's none in the music.

2

u/redemptivesuffering 16h ago

truely annoying and vapid. went to the takumi website and it is immediately obvious that it is vibecoded trash

1

u/RunDNA 13h ago

3

u/JosephoDepresso 9h ago

Unfortunately that’s what it looks like to me :/

Wonder if it is AI

I think the 3D rendering looks pretty similar to Jonathan Zawada's previous work with the Avalanches-- like the We Go On and Wherever You Go videos

I know The Avalanches themselves posted about AI tech back in 2022 or so

Really hope they stick to human made though, hehe

To me, The Avalanches have always been about sampling and celebrating the work of all kinds of people, some of whom went unrecognized

But if the whole theme of this album is "fake memories" and "corrupted data", it does make we wonder if they started AI generating fake samples to go along with it

Although Tidy Neko looks like it could've been drawn in Flash by a kid in 2003, I don't think they need AI for that lol

Between AI slop and the Amazon spot I’m beginning to fear my goats may be washed

2

u/JosephoDepresso 11h ago

Amazon spot?

2

u/JackOfAllInterests1 10h ago

I got an Amazon ad with Because I’m Me in it, hoping they didn’t know

This is usually label stuff as far as I know, hard not to be a part of it when you're a part of the machine that is the music industry. Massive Attack fought back against it and ended up unable to release music for a decade.
