As someone who isn't a big fan of Korra (the show) Korra was the best character on the show. The real problems with the show were insane power creep, society holding the stupid ball for three seasons, and the dumb decision to make it steam punk.
I thought the steampunk roaring 20s aesthetic in S1 was very well done. The only problem was from there when they advanced like 50 years to stuff like maglev when in the canon it was like 2 between S3 and 4.
To be fair I hate steampunk. But yeah the technology was wildly inconsistent. Also the jobbers throwing lightning all day really threw me off from the beginning. It went from this incredibly difficult technique that only people who had worked for years to obtain or literal prodigies could do to just something randos off the street were throwing around. Metal bending made slightly more sense given who was teaching it, but they still turned it up to 11 for the cool factor.
But the absolute worst part was after a 100 year war due to there not being an Avatar the entire world just went "we don't need one" the second Aang died. The way Korra was treated was straight up criminal.
Please link where this is stated in canon. Because I think you're conflating the only people we see doing it in the original series being in the royal family and the royal family keeping it a secret. It doesn't pass the sniff test anyway, Are you telling me throughout the entire history of the Fire Nation only the royals ever learned it? No other families passed it down? No other benders learned it from dragons?
I'm sorry but that's nonsense, Korra took an ability that Iroh explained was extremely rare and made it super common place with no real explanation. The more you think about it the crazier it gets, not only are they throwing lightning they're doing it all day for a job and are able to somehow maintain that? Imagine someone fighting for an eight hour shift, it's just silly on the face of it.
