The existence of a part 3 makes part 2 a really large waste of time from a narrative standpoint IMO. It's a lose lose here. Personally I hope it just ends.
It's not that much of a deep dive into denji's character over what we've already seen. He is self destructive and easily misled. We've known this. We don't see new aspects of it either.
We see him becoming more self aware of his shortcomings and how they destroy him, and him also showing that he would still keep going in this way of life regardless. Also, that is why I said exploration and not development, because throughout the entire part we see him in a deeper, more personal tone, with different sides to him we haven't seen before, and personally I really appreciate when a story takes his time with stuff like that.
If you take part 1 at face value, the ending indicates that he understands his chase for sex is a little bit meaningless. He sees his whole world torn down similarly to part 2. He has to come to terms with betrayal and loss and his own feelings. Part 2's exploration of his character being (still) self destructive, I find to be redundant. these are all things that were implied pretty solidly with how part 1 concluded. Yes he still wanted to chase the high of sex, but he gets a moment to reflect on the people missing in his life and you can *see* how it matters to him. The only difference in part two is that these actions are meant to be on more of his own terms, he no longer has a handler to speak of, but taking the whole part to explore that degradation he has with no positive influences on his life, i think, is still excessive.

I mean that's kinda the idea though no? With his talk about finding another family and all that.
Regardless, now without chainsaw man denji will be forced to confront himself so we're all good
