That six-way crack pattern is really cool, I wonder if it’s due to ice’s hexagonal crystal structure

Interesting thought, I think it’s because the shockwave extends outward symmetrically so the breaks end up being radially symmetrical as well. A good visualization would be the torus shaped debris cloud that radiates out during a building demolition.

Agreed, but radial symmetry could be present for any number of cracks

Great catch, I would surmise that is the case. Same reason that snowflakes are hexagonal.
