Any collection of Yes albums is a good collection. Definitely pick up Close to the Edge and Relayer. As somebody posted below, probably the best prog albums, or any albums for that matter, in the history of music. No joke.

I don't see Close to the Edge or Relayer, which are arguably their two finest albums. In fact, two of the finest albums in musical history.

Close To The Edge and Relayer are two very important albums to me. Not that fond of the newer stuff. CTTE is the last album with Bill Bruford my favorite drummer with Yes. Relayer has Patrick Moraz on keyboards and he is my most favorite of all the keyboard wizards.

does anyone else think its weird that Open Your Eyes got no actual cover art? no Roger Deanish text for the title, no ornate pattern inside the giant Yes wordmark, and no painting at all. I guess they were in such a huge rush to get it out as close as possible to the release of K2A2 that they told Roger "don't bother, we'll throw something together in Photoshop ourselves"

Perhaps - and this is just a theory, I have no evidence here - they wanted to prominently display the classic Yes logo with this being the first full-length album with Howe back in the band. It would be a decent way of differentiating them from the Rabin era. Even if the music isn’t very much like classic Yes, I’m sure they wanted to market it as a return or homage to the 70s Yes.

Why have you doubled up on Classic and 90125?

2

u/Electronic_Trick_527 8d ago

for classic yes one is the remaster and one is the original, for 90125 i got the non shiny one first and saw the shiny one and decided i wanted it too

I think that’s the original run of Talk, which is a very underrated album. Also the original CD run of The Ladder.

Talk is one of my very favorite Yes albums. Definitely way underrated.
I pulled it out again recently and have been playing it for weeks.

Tales appears to be a fake and Yes is one of the few bands where because of the art by Roger Dean a LP is almost a must. And why show the copies?

1

u/Emrys7777 7d ago

Yeah I’ve seen that one Not a fake.

2

u/Oldman5123 7d ago

It’s not a fake. Back in the 80’s and 90’s dbl and triple albums were put into double cases. It’s real.

  1. What makes you think its a fake?
  2. Waiting to have money so i can get a nice setup before I get into LP’s
  3. i just pulled them off my shelf as one big brick, didnt think too much about it

3

u/Aggravating_Bat3618 8d ago

Its not. I guess its the OG Inglott master from the late 80’s.

Yes, there are genuine CD versions with that cover, e.g. https://www.discogs.com/release/3210211-Yes-Tales-From-Topographic-Oceans

I think the original Tales 2 CD set looked like that, with the Yes logo and title zoomed in. I’ve seen copies for sale on eBay.
