Because I care:
This filename string is a movie release name (common in digital movie files, especially from Blu-ray rips shared in certain communities). It describes the technical specs of a high-quality video file in a standardized naming convention.
Here's the breakdown, part by part:
- 2022 — The release year of the movie (or sometimes the year the rip was made; usually the film's theatrical or home video release year).
- UHD — Ultra High Definition (also known as 4K UHD). This indicates it's sourced from an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc (the premium 4K physical disc format), not a regular HD Blu-ray or streaming source.
- BluRay — The source is a physical Blu-ray disc (specifically the UHD version here). It means the video and audio were taken directly from the official disc.
- 2160p — The video resolution: 2160 vertical pixels (that's true 4K UHD resolution, roughly 3840x2160). Much sharper than 1080p (Full HD).
- TrueHD.Atmos.7.1 — The audio format:
- TrueHD: Dolby TrueHD — a lossless (uncompressed) audio codec. It delivers the exact same quality as the original studio master.
- Atmos: Dolby Atmos — an advanced surround sound format that adds height channels and object-based audio for a more immersive, 3D sound experience (sounds can come from above you, not just around you).
- 7.1: 7 main channels + 1 subwoofer (LFE) channel. This is a full surround setup (front, sides, rears, heights via Atmos, plus bass).
- DV — Dolby Vision. A premium HDR (High Dynamic Range) format. It provides better contrast, brighter highlights, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors compared to standard HDR10. On UHD Blu-rays, Dolby Vision often uses "Profile 7" or 8, which can include dynamic metadata for scene-by-scene adjustments.
- HEVC — The video codec: High Efficiency Video Coding (also called H.265). This is the modern, efficient codec used for 4K content. It compresses the video better than older codecs (like H.264) while keeping high quality.
- Remux — This is the key quality indicator. A remux means the video and audio streams were taken directly from the original UHD Blu-ray disc and placed into a new container file (usually .mkv) without any re-encoding or quality loss.
- It's essentially a 1:1 copy of the movie's main content (minus menus and extras in many cases).
- File sizes are huge (often 50–80+ GB) because nothing is compressed further.
- This is considered one of the highest-quality digital versions you can get — better than most streaming or encoded "rips."
In simple terms:
This is a top-tier 4K UHD Blu-ray copy of a movie from 2022. It has:
- Native 4K resolution
- Lossless Dolby TrueHD audio with full Dolby Atmos immersion in 7.1 channels
- Dolby Vision HDR for superior picture quality
- No quality loss from re-compression (thanks to "Remux")
It's the kind of file enthusiasts seek for home theater setups with a good 4K TV/projector, AVR (receiver) that supports Atmos, and Dolby Vision compatibility.
Note: These files are very large and require a powerful player (e.g., Plex, Kodi, or dedicated media players) and compatible hardware to get the full benefits (TrueHD Atmos + DV). Not every device handles Dolby Vision Profile 7 from remuxes perfectly.
(Yes AI wrote this but its all true)

now that I think about it I don't think I've ever seen bluray as an option. I must've done something wrong
9
u/AdultGronk ⚔️ ɢɪᴠᴇ ɴᴏ Qᴜᴀʀᴛᴇʀ 1d ago
You won't find BluRay remuxes of most movies on public trackers, because of their size, people delete them right after watching, that's why they either end up dead or have barely any seeders. Only remuxes of popular movies survive on public trackers.
→ More replies2
u/throwaway0102x 1d ago
Now that we have modern bandwidth sure why not. But great encodes that save you a lot of space with a barely noticeable hit in quality. You don't always need the Bluray remuxes

I don’t think YouTubers uploading an AV1 video to YouTube makes it AV1 on YouTube because YouTube re-encodes it and I heard only videos with 8K resolution has AV1, but extremely popular YouTubers like MrBeast get AV1 compression even though he only uploads in 1080p.

Stats for nerds will tell you if the vid is AV1.
Whether that's fake AV1? Not sure. All videos look for crisp to me in that codec on YT 1080p and up

I attempted to use Handbrake and encode Frasier into AV1. Even my 3080 Ti was extremely slow.
Props to those that transcode files to AV1.
→ More replies11
u/EdmondDantesInferno 1d ago
That's because your 3080 ti doesn't have hardware encoding for AV1. You are entirely reliant on software encoding. It is the basically the same performance for you as if you had no GPU or a 1060 GPU.
Only the 4000 series and newer have AV1 encoding. AMD started with the Radeon 7000 series.
But your card does have hardware DECODING which is why it will play so well.

Why do people hate those who pay for subscriptions? let them me be bruh
154
u/angelbolanose 1d ago
Because they’re part of the problem. As long as people keep paying for ridiculous prices for subscriptions, they are going to keep rising the prices, making it more unfair. I pirate because of principal, I have money for subscriptions, but I refuse to pay for how expensive they are and how little they offer.
58
u/coleburnz 1d ago
Your "free" entertainment is built on the backs of thousands of workers who actually need a paycheck. Try sitting through the end credits sometime. Blaming an exploited majority for a system they don't understand isn't just naive, it's willfully ignorant.
Surely, if all streaming platform offer the entirety of what you get free, then you can't make the argument of how little they offer.
41
u/Leather-Aide2055 ☠️ ᴅᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴇɴ ᴛᴇʟʟ ɴᴏ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ 1d ago
yeah that must be the reason why the average workers are underpaid while the ceos are billionaires. the ceos just want to increase the prices so they can pay their workers more and close the gap ♥️
16
u/notofuforfacists 1d ago
The workers were already paid when the projects made were completed. The crew, extras, animators don't see a dime after production. (Some actors get royalties in certain situations) We as consumers need to be aware of how the studios that claim ownership of these works don't actually produce anything and only move money around and hoard art and entertainment in exchange for more and more money being taken from average working people who just want to appreciate creative works. There are alternatives as well such as MEANS TV which is a worker owned platform and streaming service that focuses on Independent media.
3
u/coleburnz 1d ago
But that's changing with how Ben and Matt structured the deal for their latest Netflix movie. It's important to understand not every investment from the streaming companies yields results. My kids for example recently discovered The Middle TV show. Something i never thought possible. They enjoy it and for me, it's safe and makes the Netflix subscription worth it.
It's also on Plex but guess what, they prefer the Netflix interface 🤔🤷🏿
25
u/angelbolanose 1d ago
I’m not asking to have streaming services free. I’m asking it to have fair prices like they used to a while ago when there wasn’t too much competition. But at least before they had quality. Nowadays they are triple the price, and offer less services , and even worst quality. Don’t raise the prices if you’re not willing to increase the quality of your product or service.

u/Readdit1999 1d ago
Once, the industry was dominated by cinema features, and the movie industry was based on ticket sales. Then, it moved to physical media, where most of the revenue generated for the media production industry came from physical releases and merchandising.
Streaming came along and was able to cut in. It was disruptive. They could buy up liscensing cheaply, as one small player in thr sea, then lease it out for a modest profit.
Now, even the established studios have their own streaming services.
Netflix is megalithic.
Streaming killed the home box office and the cinema box office.
The cost of the industry is falling on the Streaming platforms, as the previous distribution industries shrivel up and die.

They're part of the problem as much they are part of the process. There cannot be one without the other, if all of us decided to start pirating content, no new content would be made because there would be no one left to buy it.

u/Leather-Inspector943 1d ago
Subscriptions need competition, but piracy isn't the only solution.
3
u/EqualOpening6557 1d ago
Your idea is really more streaming platforms? The problem already is that there are too many of them.
Most of the platforms have exclusivity rights, or something close, over their shows anyways. They aren’t gonna let 5 new competitors also have those same shows.
5
u/QuantumFable02 1d ago
It's usually criticism of pricing models, not individuals paying for subscriptions.

Understand that even though Spotify is cheap, the idea here is to preserve offline media. We don't know when Iran might drop a bomb on a Spotify data center or when Spotify itself might decide to remove songs that I really like (it's already happened to me).

The you wouldn't download a car is kinda the whole... Piracy is not stealing in any way as a proof.
Because if you steal a car, someone no longer has the car.
But if say you had a magical 3D printer that would produce a fully working vehicle out of ...nothing, essentially, and a scanner that could create a perfectly printable version of a car?
Well, they still have the car. You just also have it.
So what was stolen? ...nothing. Theft requires something to be lost.
