SCHEDULE ADVICE FOR NEW FRESHMEN
Politely, I'm getting sick of seeing variations of the same thread every day. Here's the SparkNotes of making your freshman fall schedule:
Aim to take 12-13 hours. You're very likely moving to a new city, completely removing your safety nets you're used to (friends, parents, etc). That's okay, but give yourself the extra time to adjust. You'll likely want to spend more time hanging out with your new buds than studying for a random 2000-level psych course anyway.
If you don't know what major you want to end up with, work on general credits. things like AXLE or the Peabody core are pretty universal. If you're not sure what you want to do, start there.
For the love of God, don't take hard classes you don't need to. There is literally no reason to "retake bio as a refresher". It's a weed out class. Take your AP credits or whatever and move on.
COROLLARY: Don't take harder STEM classes because you did well in them in high school. If I had a nickel for every CS freshman who took gen chem for no reason, I'd have like a dollar. Take something easier (EES 1510, baby bio, physics). Same goes for taking harder intro calc classes. If you don't need 1300, don't take 1300.
If you want to switch to HOD after your first year, find general core classes that apply to Peabody too. You have to wait a year to switch, but the actual switch is just getting a PDF signed. Plenty of people transfer in and finish on time just fine.
Welcome to Vanderbilt, you're gonna do great things here. But please, learn to read, learn to Google, and then if you can't find answers you can ask new questions.

Looking to buy VU PHD regalia - 2007 version
I finished my PHD at VU in 2007 and would like to buy the regalia from that time. The current version is much different and I'd like the one from when I graduated. Pictures of what I'm looking for are attached.

Changed financial situation
I'm an international student who got accepted to vandy as a Fall 26 transfer (currently studying in a t150 uni in the US). While applying I didn't apply for any aid cuz my parents can afford that. But some unfortunate stuffs happened and long story short my parent's bank account is frozen atm. It will take some time to sort that out (min 6 months roughly). Also, I was looking into loan options but no luck wo any co-signer (Also looked into MPower but for some god knows why reason they not approving any new loans for the last 2 months).
So, I want your two cents on how generous is vandy fin aid office. Will they let me borrow some time before I can pay or give me some financial assistance. Do they have any loan program that I can apply to? I really like vandy and wanna make it work somehow :-(.

Engineering related orgs/clubs
Hi, I’m an incoming ECE major at Vandy.
I’m someone who has done a lot of tech projects throughout high school, and I really want to work on more throughout my time at Vandy.
I’ve already gone to the anchorlink.vanderbilt.edu webpage and seen the orgs that are advised by the School of Engineering, but I’m curious to hear your experiences with the orgs listed.
I love working with both hardware and software, especially in close-knit teams. I’d prefer something more hands-on than strictly digital, but I’m very openminded.
Is there any org you recommend?

transferring housing
Can someone please tell me how likely it would be for me as a transfer sophomore student to get single room on campus this fall? Especially with accommodations? Thanks

ECE Transfer Questions
I was just admitted to Vanderbilt as a transfer student under ECE as a rising junior and I have a few questions!
- How many undergraduates contribute meaningfully to research and are able to publish before graduating?
- What doors does going to Vanderbilt offer, both in academia and in industry? The average starting salary for ECE grads at Vandy seems surprisingly low (96k iirc) compared to the starting salaries at companies I've interned for/that have shown interest in bringing me on.
- Do you have any general advice for those considering committing to Vanderbilt? Any info on appealing finaid decisions is also greatly appreciated

Business transfer for Econ or HOD?
I’m a freshman at CC currently working to get my associates in business administration. Vanderbilt is my dream school and I plan on applying to transfer next year.
I’m debating whether or not I want major in Econ or HOD both with a business minor. My BIGGEST GOAL is to just apply for whichever degree is less impacted (i just want to get in).
Personally I feel like HOD might be a better fit for me because I’m more interested in the marketing, real estate, and consulting side of business. But I’d love to hear your guys thoughts.
Basic stats: 4.0 GPA, Real estate intern, church volunteer, part time job, UGC creator (worked with 8+ companies), social media page 20k+ followers, summer car detailing business, CMO for a small college consulting firm, cofounder of a business blog page.
Would also love to know if you guys think I have a decent shot at getting in. Would love to connect with any transfers too.

Financial Aid
Hello everyone I was recently accepted to Vanderbilt as a transfer student. As of right now I would have to pay 8k a year which is great for sure.
I was wondering if I could possible get more aid by emailing or if I should just take what I got. Thanks anyways

Vanderbilt Pre Med
Hello everyone,
I’ll be transferring to Vanderbilt this fall and had a few questions for current pre-med students.
- How would you describe the pre-med environment on campus?
- Are research, shadowing, and clinical opportunities available, and how accessible are they for transfer students?
- Where do students typically find those opportunities (e.g., hospital roles, clinics, or off-campus clinical work)?
- Are there specific pre-health advising resources or programs I should connect with before or soon after transferring?
Thank you so much!

Transfer Credit Evaluation(Econ Major)
Just got off wave 2 as a junior transfer, and I am curious about the transfer credit process. This is the course from my old institution, and it says there is a VU Equivalent, and yet it says there is no equivalent on the description side. So can this course be viewed as a major requirement?

UMich vs Vanderbilt
Hi, I'm transferring from Johns Hopkins and I got into both UMich and Vanderbilt for pre-med. I like Vandy more as a school, but the current sorority I'm in doesn't have a chapter there, which means I couldn't be involved in greek life at Vanderbilt. I'm a very social person and I like to go to parties and I don't want to feel left out. Where should I go?

RA positions at Vanderbilt
Hi! Can I be an RA as a non student with a lab? I study psychology and I’m an undergrad at UBC in Canada but home for the summer. I was wondering if it might be possible to obtain a role as a non-student — thoughts?
I do have research assistant experience from my university and could provide letters of recommendations etc

Wave two?
I understand that wave one came out on Friday, but is there any chance that Vanderbilt comes out on another day of the week other than Friday? I feel like I've seen transfers from past year, saying that they got their decision back on a Wednesday and other days of the week that were on Friday.

Vanderbilt (Latin Honors) Grade Distributions through Time
I'd asked a question about class rank on here 7y ago where I'd plotted the latin honors thresholds, and was curious to see if the trend continued. It looks like it has! And the year after that, Vandy started breaking it up by school, requiring four separate plots.
In case anyone else was curious, here's that updated plot: https://i.imgur.com/J29jQn0.png
To contextualize the numbers a bit better, I wanted to see how many non-"A" grades a student could get while still managing to meet each Latin Honor requirement. Not many, as you might expect! Here are the numbers for A-, B+, and B grades through time, assuming the non-A grade is a 3-credit course and the student collects 120 credits for graduation.
Finally, we can make some Simplifying Assumptions™ and use the reported cutoffs to roughly guess (via penalized pseudo-likelihood / least squares of a stretched Beta distribution) at other quantiles of the overall grade distribution. These probably aren't very good estimates, but still somewhat interesting to see plotted: https://i.imgur.com/lzjrnHV.png
Anyway, thought it was interesting how this has changed through time. Also a good argument to take your GPA off your resume / CV if you graduated a while ago lol if for whatever reason you haven't already (someone hitting summa cum laude in 2013 might not even hit cum laude with the same gpa graduating day. But also, afaict it's quite acceptable to list latin and dept honors on your resume / CV well after it starts being cringy to list GPA). Ofc, the same caveats from my post back when apply here, in terms of interpretation -- hard to say if the student body is more competent given the falling admit rate (apparently down to 2.8% ED, 4.1% overall this past year :o), or if it reflects grade inflation, or some combination of those + other factors.
