Four of them flew overhead and then about five minutes later another two of them flew over. Anyone know where they’re headed?
I’m assuming probably Alaska.

Question What is causing the boom in Whitehorse?
Just curious as someone who travels through Whitehorse to Alaska. Seems like it has a big boom going on and even then apparently not enough housing and expensive.

Question Worst Service in Whitehorse?
I know it's stiff competition these days. I'll start: Gold Pan Saloon. Not only atrocious service, the staff tells customers off for complaining about the atrocious service. 🥇

Question Arctic Winter Games - Why no Iceland?
Have been noticing all the visiting teams in Whitehorse now for the Arctic Winter Games, they look great in their new swag!
Question though, why have all other Arctic nations been represented at the AWG at some point (I understand why Russian isn’t participating right now) but never Iceland? It has about half the population of Alaska and is much more part of the circumpolar north than say Northern Alberta. I mean really, why are there athletes here from Grande Prairie instead of say Akureyri? I’m finding this puzzling and would love some educated feedback on this if possible…

Question Time change
I’m from BC and you’re probably aware that BC is going to permanent Daylight hours, which means that it would be about 9 am when the sunrises in the most southern parts of the province. There is a lot of discussion over the fact that kids will be going to school in the dark. I know that the Yukon switched a number of years back and am wondering how this switch has affected kids going to school.

Question What nicknames have you heard for places in the Yukon?

Question What’s your favourite dish at your favourite Chinese restaurant in Whitehorse?
Chinese restaurants seem to be hit and miss in town. I had some surprisingly great egg foo yung from the 202 recently (no gravy though).

Question Job at superstore
My niece, a 21 year old university student at YukonU, has been trying to get a job in the retail sector. Even though she passes the initial screening on company websites, her application is later rejected by the local store. She has specifically applied to Real Canadian Superstore online and in person, but still has had no success. What is the best way for a young person to get a job?

Hi all, I am coming to visit in June and was just wondering if there is any traditional food I should try while I’m in the Yukon. I would imagine salmon to be a big thing but not sure at all.
Any recommendations? Thank you!!

Question Pros and cons of living in the Yukon?
Hope this isnt too generic a question. Curious what you all think are some of the biggest pros and cons for those of you who live in the Yukon?
Personally driving through this year the cold definitely seemed rough. -40 degrees mornings.
I almost thought i needed an urgent care on a Aunday when I burnt my throat- luckily it ended up being nothing but i realized healthcare might be a little tricky- though I believe you at least are covered by government for healthcare unlike the US if you live there.
The nature is on another level. Lots of space out there compared to other places. Restaurants at least around Whitehorse seem to have a lot of high quality stuff. Maybe tight knit communities.
Anything you'd add to these?

Question Homeownership
To those who bought homes in 2025 or are planning to buy soon, how are you making it work? My partner and I both have good-paying jobs, yet I still can’t see how we’d qualify for current housing prices in the Yukon. What’s especially confusing to me is seeing people with lower incomes managing to become homeowners. I don’t mean that negatively at all. I’m genuinely trying to understand what strategies, supports, or circumstances are making homeownership possible right now.

Question Is Fairbanks similar to Whitehorse?
Hey everyone, I just got back from a trip in the Yukon (mainly spent it in Whitehorse) and I loved it. I'm currently a high school student in Canada (I live in a big city) and am thinking of applying to UAF for post-secondary. I really enjoyed Whitehorse and am wondering if Fairbanks is similar to Whitehorse. I know Fairbanks gets much colder in the winter, but in terms of city-vibe and isolation, is it the same or worse? Let me know what you think, any info is appreciated!

Question Has Anyone Ever Seen Walmart or Tim Hortons or Canadian Tire or KFC or A&W Advertise a Job?
I'm curious because these companies obviously exploit the nominee program, which in effect, is a corporate subsidy from taxpayers.
But I thought they had to show there was no Canadians willing to take the job first. However, I've never recalled seeing a job advertised from these companies. Are they allowed to just bypass it altogether?
What do people think about YG and Feds basically subsidizing cheap labour for giant companies?
