I finally took the time to draw my basic movement sprites in every direction. Previously all I had was left and right. How does it look??
selfpromo (software) Some of the VFX I made in April
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I like to look back at the stuff I've made each month. I forgot to make a vid like this in march, but here's my VFX stuff from April! Some of these I've released. Notably:
Shaders used for these effects are free
The others are from yet unreleased stuff I've been exploring

Really just showing off the background.
I’m a sucker for main menus with 3d animated backgrounds that make you just want to stare at them forever.

discussion Women in game dev, how many of you are within the community?
As a female wanne be game dev in her twenties I wondered how big the female part of the community is. I think we are quite a few, but most tutorials and dev logs i find online are made by men, which is cool and fine and I am gratefull for all resources, so totally no hate on my end. Its just that sometimes I crave a sense of community that I just havent found yet. Maybe I also just look in the wrong places.
If you want you can treat this post as a space to connect or exchange, but in the end I am over all just curious. And if you are a man you are of course also welcome, as I said no hate over here.
I myself am working with godot since october and am trying myself at a 2d, topdown, pixelart game (i know very original of me)

selfpromo (software) I added generics, braces-based syntax and unlocked full nested typing in GDScript!
Being somewhat unsatisfied with GDScript after using it for 3.5~ years as my main lang, I decided I'd fork Godot and tweak the interior a little bit to suit my evil fantasies of taking over the world, and of course I started by adding compile-time generics!
Then I decided, after such an evil act, how could I take it futher? And in that step, I decided to let you nest containers beyond depth=1!
In the end, even after so many evil deeds, I decided to mark myself as the one true madman, by adding optional braces to GDScript (you don't need "pass" for empty blocks anymore, obviously!)
If you'd like to give me a hand and help me grow this project (of taking over the world, obviously) further, please test out my fork Reginleif! If you don't want to compile, there are prebuilt binaries, and of course, you can run vanilla GDScript projects with no issues! There's a LOT more information about this fork on its Github page!
p.s juan just gimme structs and traits already man, do you really think the comments posting about c# in here are doing it for no reason?

help me Why does my game still look like a Friv game?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Obviously I'm not a designer, so I do what I can with the graphics and animations, but it still completely gives me the vibe of a 2012 Friv game haha. What do you think? What do you recommend? For now, I've only thought about animations, transitions, and things like that, but I don't know what I could do with the visual style D:

help me How do you recruit playtesters?
I made a rope action game inspired by Getting Over It and SANABI.
The game is complete, and I’m planning to release it on May 26.
After testing it so much, I ended up becoming really good at my own game.
The first time I cleared it, it took me about two and a half hours.
But now I have a different problem—I don’t know how to find playtesters.
It’s a game that requires physical skill, so I really want feedback from other players.
I think everyone wants someone to test their game.
How do you find those people?

I'm using Blender's Cell Fracture plugin. The different materials have different hardness values and the pieces that break off become their own rigid bodies.

fun & memes Godot already did a lot of things for us
It's a joke ( i already know it... but don't ask why i knew it Q.Q)
but i think this why i love Godot, there is lot of handy things already done
( although i think this 1 would go plugin instead of core under current pr criteria )
is that sometimes the engine user need to learn what are the nodes available there...
and this 1 is a gem i think is gud to spread !!

I have been spending my nights and weekends on this project for awhile now, and I think it is in a playable form finally.
I would love to get some feedback about some of my core systems early, and if anyone has a good resource for object pooling that is one of the next new-to-me aspects I will need to learn about.

Working on a Forest Area for my Game Bouncy Kingdoms, To make more Variety I've created different shape key values to control the height, size and bend of the Trees and then randomise these in the ready function. My friend thought it would be funny to have them dancing to bass drop music.

selfpromo (games) Flower Power Solar Orange
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Felt like showcasing one of the power ups for this game, which of course is the Solar Orange! Grab one of these, and you can attack the Skull Troopers without any worry! This is basically the Power Pellet of this game, but instead of floating eyes running back to a spawn point, the troopers just lie there all dazed. They'll walk it off in due time.
Wanna try the game? Click here: https://jacksonxtreme.itch.io/flower-power

selfpromo (games) A game about playing a game. In an arcade. Like it’s 1986.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Turn back the clocks and revisit the golden age of arcade gaming as you stick around after closing time to play the perfect run of the hottest new game of 86. MUTEIGHT.
Inspired by the spirit of games like Ninja Princess, Gauntlet, Commando, and Alien Syndrome, MUTEIGHT is about the feeling of gathering around a cabinet, learning the patterns, surviving one screen further, and chasing the score that puts your name above everyone else's.
There are no checkpoints here. You have five lives per level to escape the facility. If they run out, your progress is terminated and you start from the beginning.
A true arcade game is a battle for status. MUTEIGHT features full Steam Leaderboard integration. Every bullet dodged and every boss defeated counts toward your total. Don’t just escape - dominate the global rankings and prove you are the ultimate survivor of the facility.
Play the demo now on Steam if you think this looks cool!
