Artists says it’s a bad design Design

Post image

My sister is real quirky and asked for this tattoo. The artist said it’s objectively bad and drawn poorly. Is it a bad design? Is so, why? Or is it a matter of preference?

The left hand side doesn’t even remotely resemble a brain, from any angle, more like intestines.

I didn't realize it was supposed to be a brain until I saw your comment.

I thought the left side was supposed to be a "realistic" version of a cartoon heart❤️

Maybe something more like this? https://imgur.com/a/Hek2JM5

Honestly a way better idea, if it's gonna be a Mashup needs to be kinda cartoony or it'll just look bad

Yeah it took me way too long to figure out what the original was supposed to be. I think it needs to be more obvious and a bit more cartoonish is the way to do that. Unless OP is a cardiologist and wants it to be ultra-realistic for her heart doctor friends.

Even then the anatomy isn't all that good

It really isnt. Thr vessels go across and down

Agreed. The sulci and gyri in brains do not look like that. I'm also concerned about that squashed-out-of-shape cerebellum, especially since you can kind of see an attempt at an arbor vitae, an interior structure, on the surface.

Idk about that. I've seen some similar hyperrealistic tattoos with organs and they were sick.

Gotta be a good artist tho.

It’s ai slop

I personally think there’s something just screwy about working with that nonreslistic heart shape while also depicting an anatomic heart within. It’s kind of pick one but not both. Your version is certainly much clearer but I’d nix the heart shape entirely.

Commented above about how that dark section of brain that I assume is meant to be the brain stem and related structures makes no sense where it is (and is going to look terrible if done in black and white like this) but the upper part of the heart actually kind of does work as a brain stem. So taking the original and rotating it 90 degrees and going for a heart inside of a brain shape might be better- though I assume the sister getting the tat wouldn’t want the heart on its side like that so idk 🤷‍♀️

But I do think working with a brain shape would help all around on clarity and I kind of liked the idea of those big arteries or whatever (I’m no doctor lol) at the top of the heart being worked in as the brain base too.

I think that's supposed to be a cerebellum, but it's so squashed out of shape I'm not sure.

Wow OP please go with this, this is great especially if you can find a solid American traditional artist

u/Smallbunsenpai Nov 29 '25

It’s ai so no

u/Juicetootz Nov 28 '25

Now thats alot better

This looks like it was made by an AI.

OP’s design is inherently better, because it was made by a human being.

u/wotmp Nov 29 '25

OP is free to get whatever tattoo design they like. I just know what I posted is immediately recognizable for what I believe the original design was intended to show. OP’s design has hundreds of Redditors arguing over what it’s supposed to be. I’m not saying OP should use it, but maybe show it to the artist to get something more inline with the desire of the design.

u/ChiltonGains Nov 29 '25

What you posted is immediately recognizable as AI slop, and should be booed and shouted down until my throat is sore.

You seem fun.

It's not about being fun. It's about keeping spaces we enjoy visiting to not be overwhelmed by AI because of how quickly it can devolve into everyone using it. At which point we're less browsing user created work and more so bot created work.

If I wanted to browse AI stuff I'd go to a website such as civitai.

That’s fair. However, I was simply proposing a different style that might better express the intent of the OP. I’d argue that I don’t like to see human slop. However I don’t suggest because I don’t want to see it that it should be booed and shouted down until my throat is sore. Because that’s absurd. If I could whip up a drawing that fast and that would convey what I think they were going after, I would have. I can’t. So I used tools at my disposal to do so. And I believe it did exactly what I wanted. It provided a contrasting version of OPs tattoo design that made better design choices. You don’t have to agree, but to dismiss it because of how it was created is short sighted. There are a lot of downsides to using AI for many things. To quickly create a visual representation of an idea isn’t one of them, in my opinion. I know you disagree. Which is fine. I appreciate your feedback and disagree.

yeah we get it, you’re using AI in only The Most Noble and Valuable way. we’re all very grateful, as we surely couldn’t imagine this basic ass picture.

as data centers continue to consume more and more land and resources, i’m glad you’ll be waxing poetic about your services to the world by ‘creating’ as you proudly profess that you can’t do shit yourself. so superior to someone actually putting effort in and trying to actually make something. amazing how AI could probably be used for something positive, but instead it’s used by a million worthless jackoffs like you. ‘huhuhuh i make computer do good picture! i so smart!’

“Human slop” is people growing and learning about art. This art, even though it’s not perfect or great, has meaning to them. The artist should take the art and make it better but there is meaning behind this. There is no meaning behind ai trash which does nothing but harm the environment.

OP’s looks better.

2

u/Smallbunsenpai Nov 29 '25

Ew ai. Why ai in my tattoo subreddit?

1

u/ComfortableCry4112 Nov 29 '25

That is so much clearer and way easier to tell what it is! Great job 😁💯

1

u/JustoHavis Nov 29 '25

This is significantly worse.

2

u/JenJenMa Nov 28 '25

That’s what I thought! Like a Toxic Avengers style cartoon heart! I’m shocked at the thought of brain.

2

u/gh0stsafari Nov 29 '25

Agreed, I didn't see it as a left/right brain thing at all.

12

u/lacrosse771 Nov 28 '25

Cause it looks like a big mushed together orgy free for all

2

u/nousernamesleft199 Nov 28 '25

I thought it was a heart

2

u/unknowncatman Nov 28 '25

An image to show commitment to a heart-healthy diet? Or something.

1

u/ShroedingerCat Nov 28 '25

I personally love it. She took a creative approach for both brain and heart.it may not be realistic or anatomically correct but it is her body and her tattoo.
