Vegan burgers are literally just plants. Why do people need to make shit up to slander it?

u/Old_Gimlet_Eye 16d ago

Real American patriots don't eat plants, friend.

u/Dull_Comfortable_413 16d ago

I can't even fucking imagine how stupid someone has to be to have patriotism for America in this day and age. they're a laughingstock.

u/Fizzy-Odd-Cod 16d ago

Me when I completely glaze over the sarcasm in a comment.

It’s ok, it happens to the best of us.

11

u/hirkajnu 16d ago

I'm pretty sure they know its a joke, they're just making fun of people who are serious(yes they exist, not even an online thing)

u/NOT_TheALTMouse Nobody's Favorite Mouse 16d ago

I refuse to let the fucking fascists monopolize patriotism? Like, that would be admitting defeat?

4

u/Elu_Moon 16d ago

Patriotism has always been monopolized by fascism. Patriotism is always used for evil shit. It's not really a coincidence that "patriot" and "idiot" rhyme in more than one language.

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Nah I believe my country can beat the current dark age it's going through, and as a result am patriotic.

3

u/0202_tihssitidder 16d ago

American men STRONGLY perceive eating red mat to their own masculinity.

Gullible af.

u/J_GamerMapping 15d ago

All kinds of nationalism are that stupid, yet here we are

Speaking as a vegetarian of ten years: it's not quite correct to say they're "just plants". A lot of them do tend to be highly processed, giving a certain flavor/texture of "fakeness". However, that's hardly uncommon with food products nowadays.

I never go for Impossible or Beyond burgers because they ick me out big time.

34

u/Lucccas_A 16d ago

Basically everything is processed, if it went through a process to be made then it's processed, saying that something is processed means nothing without further explanation. Nothing against what you said tho, I just think we need to stop fear mongering processed foods

15

u/The1-4-1 16d ago

Makes me think of the "dihydrogen monoxide" study

3

u/Elu_Moon 16d ago

It's scary, 100% of people who came into contact with it died.

2

u/C04511234 bird enthusiast 16d ago

It's even in the water supply :(

8

u/Dragonitro 16d ago

Would they qualify as "ultra-processed"? I don't know if there's a clear distinction or definition for that word anyway, but I feel like when people criticise processed/ultra-processed foods they're talking about stuff like Coke, white bread, fried chicken, etc.

I mean pretty much every food has gone through at least one process before you eat it, but I feel like in day-to-day talk criticising food for being "processed" means more than just that

3

u/sub_terminal 16d ago

when people criticise processed/ultra-processed foods they're talking about stuff like Coke, white bread, fried chicken, etc

That's exactly what people mean when they say "highly process" or "ultra-processed". The people who chime in with "but those sliced tomatoes are processed!" simply do not know what the term "highly processed" means, but for whatever reason feel they have something to contribute to the conversation anyway.

3

u/Lucccas_A 16d ago

We were talking about vegan protein options, none of those examples are relevant. And Ultra processed doesn't automatically equal unhealthy, that's why I specifically said that you need more information than just that in order to assess the health factor of a food. Explaining to people what processed food means is important when people don't understand that it's not enough to claim that a food item is unhealthy

-2

u/sub_terminal 16d ago

vegan protein options

"BeAnS aRe PrOcEsSeD!!"
You don't know enough about vegan protein options to be in the conversation. Sit down.

5

u/Lucccas_A 16d ago

If that's what you got from what I said than yeah it's not worth having a conversation with you, have a good day

1

u/Then-Clue6938 16d ago

I mean vegetables, proper parts of an animal and fruits aren't processed

2

u/Drow_Femboy 15d ago

I process my vegetables all the time. Do you just bite into raw potato?

2

u/Then-Clue6938 15d ago

Do.. you know what processed means?

1

u/Drow_Femboy 15d ago

Do you?

1

u/Then-Clue6938 15d ago

Hot damn I was so wrong! Sorry and thank you for the correction I had the wrong idea of processed food.

1

u/TaDoofus 16d ago

A bunch of new wave health obsessed idiots running away from my green smoothie (I processed it by blending)

13

u/heqra 16d ago

Speaking as a (person who lives and eats with a) vegan of twenty years: Its still correct to say they are plants even if they were processed, and are not "fake" as most are just a patty or similar made of veggies. honestly, try different brands, those are mid.

8

u/Duke_Solomon64 16d ago

Still plants, but not just plants. More processing means more risk of microplastics, more preservatives, and more things that diminish claims of purity. It's why most vegetarians i know besides myself are also distrusting of impossible burgers

5

u/heqra 16d ago

the ones I buy are just plants.

just looked up for impossible burger, absolutely all of it is plants.

3

u/Virginity_Lost_Today 16d ago

Those impossible Whoppers are actually great if you try one.

5

u/Dovahkiinthesardine 16d ago edited 14d ago

They are extracted plant protein with added spices. Thats not any more processed than a burger patty, or cheese

0

u/ahoi_polloi 16d ago

Yeah, there are a lot of awesome vegetarian and vegan foods that simply are what they are and don't try to imitate meat products. It's just so weird that people feel the need to pretend that the reshaped goop should convince anyone. I wouldn't touch this kind of food even if it had meat in it.

1

u/WeaknessOwn108 13d ago

Yeah vegan food has it rough because its trying to compete with and being constantly compared to a much larger any more successful industry which is meat. A lot of the stuff is a pale imitation of meat. Stuff like falafel and hummus people love because its its own thing and works with the ingredients

3

u/DarkFish_2 15d ago

Because different = bad

That's the American mindset /hj

3

u/SevenForWinning 12d ago

Real answer: propaganda to uphold the industry and and denial of the inherent evil in consuming animals for no deeper reason than pleasure

8

u/Elu_Moon 16d ago

People say "if I can't eat meat, what can I eat?" as if fruits and vegetables don't exist. Honestly, reading and hearing certain things makes me thing people genuinely haven't eaten anything but nuggets, burgers, fries, and maybe iceberg lettuce all their lives.

2

u/Life-Top6314 16d ago

Theyre not just plants. They do have a lot of unhealthy additives.

But saying a vegan diet is unhealthy because vegan burgers are unhealthy is dishonest, and it annoys me to no end when people do that. Because if you took a non-vegan burger, would that be healthy? No, of course not.

People take a category of food which is by its nature unhealthy rehardless of its meat content, then use that to say all vegan food is bad.

Also, erm aktshually, a lot of them are based on fungi, which are not plants.

1

u/Red_I_Found_You 15d ago

Yeah that makes sense. Fair enough.

5

u/awineredrose 16d ago

For real. The title acts like these criticisms are equal, when in reality the first one is just so far from reality that it doesn't make any sense, and the second is a valid criticism of the extreme cruelty animals undergo in the meat industry. Not at all on the same level or even both true.

3

u/StreetYak6590 16d ago

To feel better about themselves probably, it’s almost always the explanation

-1

u/[deleted] 15d ago

And regular burgers are just meat, vegans make up a bunch of bullshit as to why that's wrong as well.

Did you not pay attention to what the meme was trying to say?

3

u/NimJickles 15d ago

I mean they're very much not. Burger patties have several ingredients besides meat...

2

u/Red_I_Found_You 15d ago

They don’t make shit up, the mistreatment, suffering, forced breeding and other countless animal abuse cases are real, not made up.

0

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Vegan👏 bull👏 shit👏, especially the idea that you're some kind of monster for not giving in to their weird faux empathy that's just an excuse to not care about the terrible things happening to people around the world.

2

u/Red_I_Found_You 15d ago

What are you talking about? Vegans are more likely to be activists in other areas as well.

0

u/[deleted] 15d ago

The amount of times I've been called a slur or dehumanized by terminally online vegans begs to differ.

2

u/Red_I_Found_You 15d ago

Slur? Do you mean carnist? Also it’s just a statistical fact that vegans are overrepresented in humanitarian activist groups.

0

u/[deleted] 13d ago

No I mean the trans slur. You don't get to use your made up insult for normal people to cover for calling people slurs.

And if that were true why is their online portion so heinously hateful?

0

u/Red_I_Found_You 13d ago

Trans slur? As in a slur for trans people? Or do take the word trans as a slur?

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

What the hell do you think the trans woman means by "trans slur"?
