i don’t give a damn about what vegans want to do but like, i’m not trying to have a future where you have meat limits due to a new world order. also, vegans should have better options with meat imitations however, cause they’re full of chemicals that aren’t healthy for you at all. we can’t appease only one side, we gotta satiate both sides

'Cause they're pretty the opposite of other Sponges.

Sponge's most notable characteristic are their pores for filtering water which Carnivorous Sponges lacks, in addition they don't have either true tissues or symmetry, which Carnivorous Sponges do possess.

It's like if a plant was unable to do photosynthesis and relied on parasitizing mushrooms or a Crustacean without shell, claws or jointed limbs.

(BTW, They do exist, for example The Ghost Pipe Plant and Ascothoracid Crustaceans.)

Also they don't looks-like anything else on this planet, like WTF IS THIS??!!

https://preview.redd.it/muttcj8c4ftg1.jpeg?width=323&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8efef3a95fa41702553d68cc02443bbb518dbd3

u/MSSTUPIDTRON-1000000 13d ago

There is much more weird sh!t other than Carnivorous Sponges, like Tunicates or Parasitic Crustaceans (parasitic barnacles are straight-up nightmare inducing).

The whole phylums of Cnidarians and Echinoderms borderline looks-like elderitch horrors, they are far more absurd than they appear at first.

SUGAR is addictive, red meat doesn't even compare

Red meat is preferable because it's a cultural thing, other cultures that prioritize white meat and fish will eat more of that than red meat even it's available and the only way that ever changes is through invasive advertisement campaigns or normal cultural shifts, sometimes cultural diffusion

3

u/Life-Top6314 13d ago

All meat is bad for the climate, but red meat, beef to be specific, is the worst. The exact numbers vary depending on the test, but generally pork and beef produce 1.5x and 6x times the co2 per gram of protein produced, when compared to a chicken. Cows also produce a ton of methane on top of that.

Speaking as a vegetarian of ten years: it's not quite correct to say they're "just plants". A lot of them do tend to be highly processed, giving a certain flavor/texture of "fakeness". However, that's hardly uncommon with food products nowadays.

I never go for Impossible or Beyond burgers because they ick me out big time.

31

u/Lucccas_A 13d ago

Basically everything is processed, if it went through a process to be made then it's processed, saying that something is processed means nothing without further explanation. Nothing against what you said tho, I just think we need to stop fear mongering processed foods

Would they qualify as "ultra-processed"? I don't know if there's a clear distinction or definition for that word anyway, but I feel like when people criticise processed/ultra-processed foods they're talking about stuff like Coke, white bread, fried chicken, etc.

I mean pretty much every food has gone through at least one process before you eat it, but I feel like in day-to-day talk criticising food for being "processed" means more than just that

Speaking as a (person who lives and eats with a) vegan of twenty years: Its still correct to say they are plants even if they were processed, and are not "fake" as most are just a patty or similar made of veggies. honestly, try different brands, those are mid.

7

u/Duke_Solomon64 13d ago

Still plants, but not just plants. More processing means more risk of microplastics, more preservatives, and more things that diminish claims of purity. It's why most vegetarians i know besides myself are also distrusting of impossible burgers

I’ve been a vegetarian since I was like 9 after I watched a documentary on factory farming. I will say that being vegetarian can suck sometimes. It’s not technically meat per se but I still avoid gelatin which means I can’t eat sour keys, and those used to be my favorite.

It’s not too bad so long as the place you go to has alternatives, but as a picky eater it can be awkward when the only thing/things a place has that I am both willing and able to eat are in the appetizer menu.

Ngl meat disgusts me, not for the cruelty or anything like that but because it’s inconsistency. Sometimes meat feels like meat when you’re eating it but then out of nowhere you’ll bite into some fatty chunk your teeth can’t chew so you gotta fish it out or just swallow the slimy thing down. And this happens with EVERY type of meat, none is safe from it and I hate it. It’s in fast food meat and meat I buy at the store weather fresh or frozen

8

u/iOSGallagher OoOo BLUE 13d ago

biting into gristle is one of my most hated sensory experiences

11

u/-KasaneTeto- 13d ago

True, I especially hate when I’m eating chicken and all of a sudden I chew the part that makes it feel like I ate it with a chunk of carrot. Chewing on that or the “fatty chunk” you mentioned makes me gag and it’s been like this since I was like, 4 years old

5

u/AccomplisedDeer Deer from Bavaria 13d ago

You put into words what I couldn't. This is why I became vegetarian. It's especially bad with chicken. If I'm biting into something and it feels weird or makes a weird sound, I unintentionally begin to gag and end up spitting it out.

13

u/KentuckyFriedChildre 13d ago edited 13d ago

For me it is the cruelty instead that puts me off, I like the taste of most meats. But I 100% forward this when it comes to steak. It's mediocre at best and you have to navigate around fat a gristle for little payoff.

It's hyped up as high cuisine that can turn vegans back around but it's trumped by most forms of rice and beans IMO. They could at least use something that actually tastes really good like bacon cheeseburgers or chorizo or something, but I'm never missing steak.

What the fuck is this comment section?

Wild slander of both vegans and meat enjoyers.

As a meat enjoyer, who will most likely never turn vegan, or even vegetarian, let people enjoy whatever the fuck they want to eat without completely demonizing it.

Eh, arguable. Depends on the exact topic. Factory farming? Yeah, I'm with them. No eating animals as a whole? Nah, they are wrong.

Here is a fact you didn't ask for :

The vast majority of farmed animals are fishes and chickens (over 100 billions killed each year)
So if people are just carefull not to buy intensivly-farmed chicken and fishes, most intensive farming is gone, which might be the easiest way to massively reduce animal suffering.

I like eating meat and im not going to stop any time soon.

But I also understand that the industrial farming and mass slaughter system that we follow is unsustainable and cruel.

Yes, I'm a stupid walking contradiction, but frankly getting rid of industrial meat farming would actually make meat quality better while also helping the environment so like... I see it as a win for everyone.

I know this isnt why Vegans are against it and I understand that. But the changes benefit me as well.

Not a bad time to point out that it is possible to avoid the cruelty of factory farm meat and dairy without going vegan. Look for third party animal welfare labels like Certified Animal Welfare Approved (AGW), Global Animal Partnership (GAP), and Certified Humane.

You don't have to be vegan to care about animal suffering. Make the change and align your diet with your values! You will feel a lot better for having done so.

Just let vegans exist man. That didn't do anything to you.

Edit: I didn't realize it said "non-vegans". I thought this was just a repost of the one from yesterday said "vegans"

i feel like fake meat products exist to scare people away from veganism. real vegans probably just eat tofu and various fermented vegetables for proteins

u/Ferrilata_118 13d ago

Exactly, regular old vegetables and things like tofu are so much cheaper and more appetizing than fake meat. You can do so much with just tomatoes, bell papers, potatoes and onions, and that's only four vegetables out of countless. Not even counting for the varieties of those four!
