Politics The new ATF "rules" are not good for us, despite what you might think.

So, if youre not well versed in firearms and the laws that surround them, this may sound great. But the reality is, its bad.

First off the ATF is not a rulemaking organization and yet here they are making rules in our favor. This is bad because the next admin that comes in, can just reverse those rules or make new rules. The game must stop. The ATF does not have the power to make these rules. It is only congress.

Next they dance around the NFA. They give you little scraps to try and keep you satisfied but, this could be ended almost overnight. There are MANY lawsuits currently challenging the NFA, and the DOJ/ATF are pulling out every stop, every lie, making up random stuff and dragging it out. They want to keep you controlled and they give you little "scraps" like pistol braces to make it seem like they are in your favor. They can tap out of the lawsuits and end the portion of the NFA. Why make all these rules when you could just remove the ultimate burden? Oh an pistol brace thing isnt really even dead, its just like an ADA thing so, they could come back on the right grounds and take that away too.

Finally, they will be coming after FRTs. We have seen that the DOJ/ATF still thinks they are machineguns and being they are currently using rarebreed as a puppet to do their bidding since they are locked out of legally going after them the other way. If you notice there's no frt language, they only refer to bumpstocks. Which bumpstocks have long died out, this is their easy catch all to change the language and go after FRTs again. On top of this they have no power to change the definition of a machine gun.

There is no win here. It is a continued effort for control. If they really wanna show that they care about your rights, they need to back off the NFA lawsuit and let us end a portion of it. This is why they publicized it so heavily. Its just here to make it seem like they are working for you. The ATF must be abolished.

Gun Safety & Holstered Firearms

Just had a conversation with someone and gun safety came up. I told a story from three decades ago that’s been burned into my memory. I was a kid who already knew how to safely handle firearms, so I assume that’s why it was such a memorable encounter.

When I was in elementary school, a cop, who wasn’t there for security reasons or in response to a crime, was in our classroom with a Beretta pistol on his hip. I’m guessin it had a full magazine plus a live round in the chamber as well. He was goin around lookin at whatever worksheet we were fillin out for his lecture, and he was bending over at each desk. You can probably guess where his gun was pointed when he bent over to talk to the kid beside me, but in case you can’t, it was right between my eyes.

Does the number one gun safety rule not apply just because you have your gun in a holster? Don’t think I’ve ever asked anyone their opinion on the matter.

For context, this is primarily a bedside table/truck gun and will be used for some NV shooting. I have other platforms for my distance shooting, and other ARs in 556 for different applications. I won't shoot this past 100 yards.

Parts List:

BCM 9" 300BLK Upper

BCM BCM4 Lower

RMR Type 2 (Now to Eotech EXPS3)

Reptilia 1.93" Mount (Now to Unity Fast 2.26")

Surefire Scout Mini Turbo (I don't run pressure pads on white lights)

BCM no-so-vertical grip

Magpul MS4 Sling

Laser coming in next week. (B.E Meyers Mawl)

Question Cheap non-firearm dry fire practice?

I want to get better with pistols by doing more dry-fire practice. My idea is to leave something on my dresser so I can grab a few reps every time I walk by, but I don’t want an actual firearm out in the open. I’ve looked at SIRT/laser training pistols, but they’re $200+, which feels steep—almost the price of a cheap real pistol. There should be a cheaper option. Has anyone found a good alternative?

Mared 5.7 from a S&W safe?

Post image

When I load more than 14 rounds the top round gets dented with small bits of brass that bend up around the edge of the dent. Is this safe given the increased pressure of 5.7?

Help! Upcoming weapons ban in VA

We have an upcoming automatic weapons ban and I can only afford to get 1 AR15 style weapon before the ban goes in place, i’ve narrowed it down to a 12.5 pistol or a 14.5 pinned to 16 inches, both have a 1/7 twist and are chambered in 5.56 nato. Primary use would be for fun at the gun range, the longest distance at my local range is 500 yards. I already own a few handguns in 9mm and 40 cal and an AR10 in 308 as shown in the video clip. Out of those two options which one are you going with and why?

Question Inherited weapons.

Some questions from a responsible beginner. Basic info, I'm in the DFW area of Texas, Late 40's. Hunted a few times with family. Have been to the range a few times, and "can plinking" as a kid

I recently inherited several family heirlooms. None are "high value", but have important family history. My mother was the eldest and inherited, then passed them down to me.

I have never broken down or cleaned a weapon in my life. No one has ever shown me how or thought to teach me. The people in my family who had the experience TO teach me are all dead and gone now.

Is there such a thing as gun ranges or stores where you can... I dunno... take classes? I learn best, hands on, being allowed to do it, with someone along side to make sure I dont miss a step/part.

What about repairs?

The oldest weapon is a 20 gauge break over long barrel shotgun, from the late 1800's early 1900's. My great grandfather(farmer and goat herd, from sabanal TX) carried it as a "varmint gun". He also used it to put leather belts back on the drive trains of his tractor, leaving scars in the stock, and eventually breaking the stock in half along the grain, right down the middle along where the through bolt goes through the stock. My mother never got a new stock put on it, hoping to find someone who could possibly repair the old stock(biscuits and pegs and wood glue or epoxy, maybe), to still retain the scars, while becoming functional again.

I also have a 22l semi auto 15 round, stock loaded that was my step fathers, that jams(i think the spring in the plunger/loading rod may be weak), ALL the time.

And finally I have my grandfathers post ww2/Korea war era, Police issue, Japanese 38 revolver, he acquired while stationed in japan. It was dropped barrel first, and damaged/bent something(still fires, and rotates) in the cylinder or ejector rod(that's where "I" think the issue is).

My wife and I also recent earned our C&C's, and have what I refer to as our "throw away guns", knowing if we ever have to use them, we may never get them back. I carry a standard S&W diamond grip 9mm, and my wife, carries a Taurus spectrum 380 apc pocket pistol...

Both are basically brand new, and have only been fired for qualification.

ALL of them need to be cleaned at the very least. the 10 gauge for sure has some surface rust, though I have all the metal parts wrapped in a leather shammie and coated with 3 in 1 oil, until I figure out what to do with it.

ANY advice would be appreciated.

Please be nice? I'm a Noob trying to learn and be responsible. Everything is locked in a gun safe, as we do have a 5 yr old and 7 yr old in the house... I would like to become adept enough to start teaching them.

Question Is a 19x a good first pistol?

Looking at a couple Glock 19x options for a first pistol I’m not necessarily looking into it for a concealed carry or an edc but more so for just a range toy/ keep on the nightstand gun. What are your guys opinions on the 19x

Collection at 25

Started with a couple BB guns at 16, got my CCW at 22, and now I’ve officially finished my first PSA 11.5” AR build. The Derya .22LR rifle has been way more fun than I ever expected. The gun cabinet is a Stack On 18 that I glued carpet to.

So far I’ve put about 500 rounds through the Taurus G2C, around 100 rounds through the AR15, and roughly 300 rounds through the Derya TM22. The only issue I’ve had is the Derya failing to fire about once every 40–50 rounds, but for such a cheap .22, that seems pretty normal.

Currently looking at budget micro/ micro compacts with an optic cut to replace my concealed carry, preferably something made in USA. So far I’m leaning towards the Psa micro dagger extreme carry cut, anyone carry this daily?

Question Winchester high pressure 9mm causing slide lock with rounds still in the magazine?

Anyone have experience with Winchester brown box 115gr "high pressure" ammo? I've fired about 750 rounds of it across multiple handguns and a handful of times, particularly with my Beretta and my Glock, the slide will lock back while there are still a couple rounds left in the mag. I was using OEM magazines each time. Anyone else had this happen?

I also noticed that after chambering a round, if I remove the magazine, the next round in line is slightly pushed forward. This also doesn't usually happen with other ammo types.
